Anyone use these bullets? I bought some yesterday for my Browning SS,300 Win Mag to use on Moose this fall. In the past I have used Winchester Fail Safe's, Remington Core Lokt's, and Nosler Partition. My best loads were CCI 250 Mag primers & 72 gr of R19. I have take quite a few Moose, brown bear, elk, caribou etc using this load/ bullets. Well the weather sucks- fishing is spotty and I'm done turkey hunting so--even though I have not been a fan of heavy bullets with polymer points, I decided to try them. I loaded some up Using 72 Gr of R19, 72 Gr of IMR 4831, and 71 gr of Win Supreme 780. My gun/ chamber, would accept bullets 3.60 but the mag only takes those about 3.38 which is very close to Max length in Lyman reloading book. I am going to try them today to tomorrow to see what effect on my accuracy is and which powder my gun likes with this bullet. Any comments/ suggestions/or info on the bullets effectiveness appreciated.

You are probably better off with your nosler partitions. Reason being, the SST is constructed as a "rapid expansion" bullet. So, it will hold together longer than a varmint bullet but will eventually fragment similar to one. You may also experience a large amount of damaged meat. The choice is entirely up to you but I would be using Nosler Partitions.

Yup & thanks for reply--I called Hornady and tech there said they were ok for moose if not hit in shoulder- I'm back to partitions and Core lokt's--I get itchy most years to try new stuff- will load some of the SST's for deer.

Did the tech give you any Hornady alternatives?
I load 180 gr. BTSP's for a good friend for his 300 Weatherby and he loves them. I believe this is ususally an Elk ammo for him.
He used this for antelope after I suggested that he use a different gun all together. It was definitely too much. Great for elk or mule deer though

I load the 180 SST's in my cousin 300 WBY. They work just fine. That gun might be a little much for deer but it's not overly destructive.

I use the standard hornady interlock 180grn for my 300win and have been very happy with them. I also use RL 19, 71.5grns.
