View Full Version : Wanting to shoot the .62 for the first time.
I need to get my .62's shooting. I have both a smooth bore and a very slow twist. Are there any pre-made lubed patches available? Also I'm thinking of using hard cast lead as I'm trying to save the pure stuff for the smaller calibers. I figured with the size of the .62, deforming on impact is not an issue.
Also any good starting load suggestions?:)
BTW, I just ordered my Lee .60 round ball mould.

I can't help with load data ( my guns are .54s) but I would say that you may want to try pure lead in the rifled barrel as well, My guns generally shoot better with pure lead. I suspect (but am not sure) the the softer ball upsets somewhat when fired helping push the patch deeper into the rifling. Try both and tell us what you find.

i shoot mostly hard lead both in my rifles and smoothbores .
the thing to remeber is that the patch doesnt grip as well so you have to use a little tighter patch .
unless your trying to use babot the ball will still orbitrate and the patch will seal to the rifling .
in my 62 i use 80 grains of 3F
Thanks for the load suggestion Captchee. NC I've always been sort of a pack rat. I had a friend who was the manager at a local tire store so I would hit him up for wheel weights for my fishing sinkers. He is no longer allowed to give away the weights anymore. New policy coming out of Ca.
But a mechanic buddy at a local shop saves them for me now. I've also had a bunch of pure lead from another buddy but I'm very careful now that lead has become scarce.
Anyone know where I can get some pre-cut, lube patches for it?
Nevermind. I just ordered 400 from track of the wolf.
Heck, man, I wanna know where you got the .62 in the first place!
Nowhere near a reality, but I'm always dreaming about acquiring a .62 (or maybe even 'just' a .58), but I can't figure out who is making them....
Both of my .62 are custom barrels to fit on my Underhammer. One is smooth the other is a RB twist. They are not expensive to have made BTW. Under $200 is my memory is working.
