Colt .22 auto slide doesn't catch to open position after last shot.

It seems that the magazine button that you hold down for loading rounds into it does not reach the slide release lever. I think the slide release lever may be the incorrect one because it seems to be too short to make contact with the mag button. I've tried 4 different mags with the same results.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Ideas?
I'm going to call Colt about it.

I stretched the magazine springs and this seemed to work. I'd like to get heavier duty springs though. I called Colt this morning. The don't do anything with parts anymore and they gave me a distributor to call.
