Most hunters are advised to use a small pen light while traveling in their hunting area. This is to help identify hunters during lowlight conditions. Another advice is never hunt from an elevated stand without the use of harness. This is because the most common hunting accident is falling from tree stands.

:laugh:If I was deet hunting I would start on the shelves of Walmart among the insect repellents.

Funny you should mention that tree stand safety. As the last time I was back in primarily whitetail country, at my favorite gun store, the clerk and another was discussing whether or not a friend of theirs would make it. Seems he fall without a harness!! Good tip. Another accident that hit close to home was a bear hunter who was shot sitting at the end of a field just at dark. The hunter mistook him for a-------bear! Blaze orange and a nelight--two great ideas.

I hoard my 100% Deet too. The darn bugs seem to want to bite through something with less. On tree stand safety, most of the near falls that I've had have been when I am hanging up a stand. Now if I'm hunting private land I'll put them up and leave them up and being all aluminum and camo painted they are what I call in vertical storage. I have not lost many because they are locked on and so high that most guys don't go there. Yesterday I junk picked an artificial Christmas tree with white spruce type needles and white spruce is my preferred tree stand type. A bunch of plastic wire ties and some of those artificial tree branches and my next tree stand should disappear nicely.

My best tree stand story involves a buddy sawing off a limb with one foot one one side and the other foot on the other side of the limb! Another friend and I saw the error of his ways and told him so. We left and a few moments later heard a scream as he tumbled out of the tree. Yep, after we left he forgot and put his fooot back acrosss the cut!

"Perpetual awe" is going to be my theme this year.
