I am glad you had a great time. I wonder in fairness if anyone here even hunts SD, let alone hunts praity poodles there.
Going to South Dakota in August for my first PD hunt. Will be with some others that have been doing it for years. I like to shoot Vmax bullets, but got a good deal on some FMJ loads. Not sure how well they will work, but don't expect any explosive results from them. My thoughts were to buy the loaded rounds at a discount & have the brass to load for another trip.

You might be right Altjaeger--have fun LE--I use nada but 55gr V-Max in my 22-250's but use 50 Gr TNT's in my .223--it's been very wet in SD this year so grass is quite HI and leetle guys only stick heads above it--I hunt private land so other shooters no problem- Watch out for GUMBO- Not the dish but the dirt.
Well we went hunting last week. Saved some for anyone else that wants to take a crack at them. Had fun, but it was hot out there with no shade for miles. Did a lot of shooting in the 200 thru 400 yard range. now that I have several hundred empty cases I will start reloading with my favorite V-max bullets. The FMJ worked, just not as dramatic. Don't know which was more fun, the one shot kills or the long range shots where you could wait to see a puff of dust & then adjust for the kill.

We've got a couple of barrel burners who neet here each year traveling in from Ky and Tx. They use 22s and hunt the dogs here in an area that's approx 20 miles by 20 or so. Their kills number in the thousands each year and they do not dent the overall population. Even with an annual organized hunt nearby in Medicine Bow the numbers remain up year to year. Anyone coming out should stay in Rock River or Medicine Bow and bring loads of ammo.

I just changed to the Vmax for the .222 and it shoots quite well, and very fast and flat... 1.1 inches high at 100 yards gets you spot-on at 200 yards.
That reminds me... gotta make an order for some more from Mid-South shooting supplies!

Shouldn't have spoke up about numbers as for some reason they've really dropped here this summer. The reason, according to some, is the huge amounts of rain we had earlier this spring and early summer. With that said though, my bet is they'll be mowing grass next summer in great numbers.

Senior Coot, I do go to SD but not for P-dogs my dear sir! Yep, the name of the game is pheasants and they have the numbers by golly. I may not have to go out West to hunt P-dogs this coming summer if those blessed crittters do any more multiplying in my state of Missouri.

Hi Ball,
I just arranged this years PD shoots- one in SD in June and one in MT later in summer- Been reloading thios week since it's cold and have all my .223's ready to powder and load-Haven't gone to SD for phez lately -too crowded early and KS has birds and less pressure and better prices if you need to pay to hunt- I hunt public land and also private where my nephew lives on private as his boss,a custom combine operator, has land and friends! How a guy can justify paying $1800+ for a 3 day hunt(9 birds) is way beyond me. decided that next fall I'll not worry about Big game and concentrate on birds- all kinds of them- I'm in a conundrum now as we have 2 litters of labs coming from my lads stud work and don't know if I'll take pick of litters or pass. good to see your still upright like me.

I haven't been out to SD in almost 5 years now. We did good around White River last time we went.
Don't know if I'll make it back out there, but it was a lot of fun while there !!
.222, and a .22-250 Ack Imp
