When I was growing up in a rural area, small game hunting and shotguns were a popular topic. The Winchester Model 12s and Remingtons Model 870s had their loyal owners and advocates. However, it was the Ithaca Featherweight pump shotguns that caught attention. To this day, I have to examine every Ithaca Model 37 that I see in the used gun racks. I was in a gun shop yesterday and one of the clerks I know very well went into the back of the gun shop area and reappeared carrying a pump shotgun. He said it just came in on a trade and he thought I should have it. Turns out it was a mint condition 16 gauge from about 1970 with interchangeable barrels (the earlier Model 37s had the barrels custom fitted to the receivers and were not interchangeable). It was cheap because it was a 16 gauge, full choke and has a plain barrel. No matter, I brought it home. That is my problem, I am attached to Ithaca Model 37s. Take care...

That was a problem gun for me too. The mere mention of an Ithaca M37 brings me back to the days when we rode our bicycles out of town to go pheasant hunting as kids. I had my dad's old 12 gauge Stevens pump gun and my buddy Dave had borrowed his dad's 12 gauge Browning A-5. The only trouble was that Dave also invited his buddy Larry along and he used his 16 gauge Ithaca M37 Featherweight. Pheasants were not really prevalent, but we did manage to get up three or four. The problem came from the fact that Larry was on every bird before Dave and I even got our bigger guns to our shoulder. As I remember it, Larry ate real well and Dave and I got a bunch of exercise. I've disliked the 16 gauge Ithaca M37 and Larry ever since.

I've got 3 model 37's now, a 12 gauge featherweight deluxe, and both a 16 and 20 gauge in the old plain barrel with the corncob forend. I love em. Great old shotguns and a real peasure to carry in the field.

I have the same problem. I took care of it by finding and buying a mint used 16 gauge Model 37 that was sitting in the used gun rack at a local gun shop. All the best...

I'm down to my old 16-ga. Saw an ad the other day for new high grade Ithaca 37s so apparently someone is making them again. The Model 37 was relatively expensive to produce. That is why Ithaca was squeezed out of the pump shotgun business, more than once. Greybeard/
