I thought the prune was scarier....

I just hope it was typical Hill smoke & mirrors and they put a dummy under there. Well, I guess they obviously did, either way :p

Maybe he had some kind of steel plate under that wig? It'd still ring your bell pretty good...

But man... That guy was just scary-freaky-good with a bow....

Yes, and apparently he did all of his trick shots with a 80# draw-weight bow. :vollkommenauf:
His hunting bows were 90-100lb.

Howard Hill was one top of the totem pole for archers! Most modern people who hunt with a bow & arrow no of Fred Bear and Chuck Adams but they could not hold a candle or put it out at 25 yards like Howard Hill could with his traditional long bow of 80 pound pull. I once saw a film of him shooting a big "Crock" with his long bow, he hit it right in the brain which is the size of a golf ball.

Yes he was one hell of a shot, he did the trick shooting for the robin hood movie with Eril Flynn. When I was in high school I bought a Howard Hill long bow (60lb pull) and I got pretty good with it after I got strong enough to easily handle it. Not many deer back then but I killed a lot of rabbits and tree rats with it. Now due to arthritis I can't shoot it , I thought about selling it but now everyone around here want a compound bow so I guess I'll keep it and just remember the good times that I had with it.

Rugerman downstairs is I know at least 3 compound bows gathering dust! I also have 5 traditional bows and those are 3 recurves in 25, 40 and 52 lbs of pull. There is a Fred Bear bow in the lot, "magnum" 55-lb pull I kept (40+years old) and a Long Bow hanging up with some salt water fishing rods it is 62-lbs pull. I would sell those compounds cheap but I'll keep the traditional bows until I pass on etc.
