I think that techniques for sharpening plane blades would probably translate best to very fine caping and skinning knives. For rougher use hunting knives, some guys like a somewhat "toothy" edge, rather than the superfine polish that plane blade sharpeners would seek. In addition, some hunting knife owners go for a convex edge and would probably use a mouse pad or leather as backing for the abrasive, rather than the glass plate employed by the author. Nonetheless, there's some great info in there!
