Even though our season is over, it is not to late to share a special hunt from this spring. I know you all will share in my joy. My eleven year old son took his first turkey! I am still floating on cloud nine and grinning ear to ear even though it has been a month ago.

Here is the tale . . .
We got to our listening spot and waited to well after daylight before I made the first peep. Nothing! After some time a hen started answering, but didn't seem to be getting any closer. At 7:45 she flys down and lands about 40 yards out. I was shocked, I thought she was already on the ground. I fooled with her for several minutes with my wingbone since that is what finally got her off the limb.

Some 30 minutes or so later, I thought I heard a gobble so let out a few cutts and ended with my sweetest yelp. Goobbbblleeeee! I made a move about 75 yards to cut the distance. He was constantly gobbling. We set up and before we could get properly set, Jarod says "Daddy there are some turkeys". I couldn't see them for a large tree. (We actually moved further towards the tom than I wanted, but couldn't find a good tree to set up on.) The first one I see was a nice longbeard. Sadly, he sees Jarod trying to get on him and decides he wanted no part of this fun. I began calling to get the attention of the other birds, five jakes. As you would expect, they wonder right on in and what seemed like hours, Jaord finally greets one of them with a load of 5's through his 20 gauge 870. The strange thing about this was that the longbear never putted, instead just walked off gobbling his head off. If we had more time, we would have gone on after him, but we had to get my son on to baseball practice. But needless to say, I think he is hooked now! :D

This was one of our best seasons, I manged to fill my two bird limit and he got his first. Even though the state released birds about a mile and half from out place 20 years ago, it has take a long time for birds to finally start using our property with any regularity during the turkey season. I look forward to the future and I know my son does.

This is one memory neither of us will soon forget. I am indeed grateful and truly blessed to have experienced this moment with my son. Thanks Lord!

The jake weighed 15.5 pounds, had a five inch beard and just bumps for spurs. But being his first, it couldn't have been any better nor came at a better time.

That's great. I can't wait until my kids are ready for their first hunts.

My kids have been hunting a long time and have done well. But I get much more excited when they get something then when I shoot something.

Congrats on your son's turkey.

A golfer can generate a good amount of speed

The five-iron is a mid-length club for distances 200 years and in but, of course, depending on the strength of the golfer and how well he or she can use the club. A golfer can generate a good amount of speed thanks to the five iron's club head. The speed of the discount golf equipment (http://www.golfstore365.com/) is what actually determines the distance the ball will be hit, similar to the speed of the ball in baseball. ishiner

To have a father who hunts and introduces the natural world to him. He is the lucky one and he knows it. Nice bird.
