This is gonna be entertaining.
The boys cleaned out a back building for a place to work on the dirtbikes they seem to find readily for cheap. It has become a hangout of sorts. Fine with me except the garden is between there and the barn.
Compound that with my 4yr old grandson 'helping' and it'll be fun to see what survives over the summer. :D
I bought some sweet peppers, squash, and maters already started but all the rest is seed so far. We planted last tue and a light warm rain is upon us tonight.
sidenote; the tiller started jumping the chain off a sprocket and Aaron has it tore down in 'his shop'. ;) ... says it needs new bearings, which we found on the net but haven't ordered yet. (I'm kinda glad this happened or he'd have my entire yard tilled.) :D

Tomatoes are chest high here. Plenty of greens. Cucumbers are starting to climb the fence, cayennes are producing but japenos, bell, and anaheims have plenty of blooms and small peppers but nothing to pick yet. put some started eggplant in the ground yeasterday and the okra is about 8 inches high. The green beans are putting on and we should have a batch by the end of the week. Good rain for most of last week did everything a lot of good.

It's kind of funny, we have to come to a gardening thread to get an idea just how big this great country of ours really is and how diverse the weather can be.
There's still snow on the north side of the mountains up here and in the woods, and the weatherman is calling for rain mixed with snow for the rest of the week.
But, I'm gettin' the itch, so maybe I'll start the tomatoes indoors today.

I know what you mean Bill. Sitting here a little east of you waiting for the frost
to leave the ground and the guys down south have gardens looking like ours
Will about the first of July. Rule of thumb here is don't plant anything but peas
before Memorial day.:)

I should be visiting San Antonio in August this summer. I don't suppose you get frost then either.......

I've tilled, but we've had so much rain the last couple of weeks that I'm going to have to redo it. Never got seeds in the ground, and now the weeds are back up.
My plum trees were froze hard 3 times while in bloom. No good, but the peaches and apples will pull through.

I've got peas up about 6 inches or so....and that's about it for now. We've had another cool snap that I'm waiting to clear before setting out some lettuce and onions. Tomatoes and cucumbers will follow in mid May or so as they are inside right now. I'm planting a "late" section of peas this upcoming weekend. I'm also going to do some potatoes in a bag for the girls to watch this summer....guess I'll start that this weekend as well.

We've been eating asp sprouts for about 3 weeks now. I bet there's some more out there now. :)
I should get some more sets and make another bed. The bed I have is over ten yrs old and we could handle more. Good stuff.

My wife insists on waiting until all possible freezes are over so I transplanted tomatoes last week. I think that will be about it this year.

Bill, it's been a while since I laid lips on a frosted mug of Lone Star, but Texas Summertime weather will sure tempt a man!

Incredibly hot today. Around 95+. Burned the tops off of 6 tomato plants and about 1/4 of the green beans. Everything else was wilted to the ground. Watered for about 4 hours. Maybe we'll make it through tomorrow as it's only suppose to get to 86.

Ate the first batch of green beans today and picked a pot full of new zealand spinach to go with my sausage for tomorrow night's supper.

My garden is going to float away.
I planted Saturday, and have had 5"+ of rain since then.:( Next week doesn't look any better. I'm worried the seeds will rot in the ground.

More greens, beans, peppers, and Cucumbers. Can't hardly get in the garden anymore it's so grown up. Tomatoes should start making any time now.

That rain did a number on ours. Corn, zuchini and lettuce was all that came up, well that and three bean plants.
Replanted everything else. Heck we've even had 7 tomatos eaten off by rabbits. This year has already been tougher than last year.

Yep, same up here in the Lyons Falls area. I've got the onions and beets planted and today I'll put in some beans, but I'm also remembering frost right up into the second week of June in the past so I'm not in a hurry.

Do you guys have Like, a two week growing season? We kinda figure June as the last month of our Spring gardens because July and August are too hot!

Usually the 4th, and the 5th of July....
Unless there's a frost on the 4th. http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/characters/character0197.gif http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/characters/character0080.gif
This is the normal view out our kitchen window. The deer, fox, and turkeys walk right up the driveway behind the shed..

The one that's strange is how big the vegtables grow in Alaska from the almost 24 hour light in summer.
