View Full Version : I still prefer OLD Colt automatics and Old S&W revolvers.

I like collecting handguns and most are also shooters. My favorites are the old Colt M1911 and 1911A1 .45s and all old S&W double action revolvers. The new "plastic" semi-auto pistols and DA revolvers with pinned in the frame firing pins and gun lock gizmos leave me cold. I noticed at the last gun show here in March that these old guns are really going up in price.

Does anyone else prefer the older handguns besides me?

I prefer S&W revolvers whose barrels are pinned, not crush threaded. I find them generally more accurate.

I like the oldies too...

The problem is finding older Colt autos and S&W revolvers that are pinned and recessed in acceptable condition at a reasonable price. All the best...

I have always leaned towards the older guns. I do not like these built in locks and such that are on some of the newer models. I actually do more things with older rifles than with pistols.

I guess when you get older like me, that old quality and style appears more favorable to you.

Andre,

Nice photos of your handguns. I am curious about the legal hurdles you need to go through in Belgium to possess such handguns. Do you have a lot of hassle? Do you handload and, if so, are licenses involved? Do you have a wide selection of handgun ammo and reloading supplies in Belgium?

Before 2006, things used to be easier. Hunting guns were sold freely, while handguns were submitted to a police licence (however, things ran smoothly as you were considered as a bona fide citizen or not, once for all). Today, all firearms are licenced with a lot of red tape and you have to through the full procedure for each new gun, no matter if you own dozens of them already !?!? I handload for all my shooting and hunting needs but most types/brands of ammo are available in gunshops.

Andre......Great pictures of some mighty fine pistols, several which I used to own like the 6 inch COLT PYTHON, and 70 Series Colts. I looked the other day and counted more Sigs than any other pistol in the vault. I do have one Glock model 20 in 10mm......Gee that gun is pure ugly!
