NCB, that bow hunter might have tagged that buck on public land, but I would surmise that he had some other factors going for him. Things like adjacent to protected private land, a state or national park, a city limit or such. If it came out of a big block of public land, accessibility was probably limited. Do you have any info on the buck?

I've hunted there some in 06 but didn't see a mature buck. It's a pretty good size place and very rugged land.

these ridges fall of steeply down on each side about ~50ft or so into 'holes', and then up to another ridge.

I shot a B&C coyote from here. Pretty good ground setup hiding up against that tree. That gap is a natural funnel.

and it's a real good place to test someone's metal at night. ;)

The place is Avondale Wildlife Area.
Muskingum Co (http://www.outdoorohio.com/counties/Muskingum.htm)

and you're right. It's not the easiest place to get to and/or hunt in Ohio. ... no camping allowed on this area.

Does Ohio have a one buck per year rule?

I can't remember if it is Indiana or Ohio that has the one buck per hunter per year.

Also, is it an archery only conservation area?

One buck only.

As far as I know, like most public lands in Ohio, the area is open for all forms of hunting in season. I have not experienced the Ohio gun season in that particular area. :D

There are a couple archery only conservation areas in MO that are outstanding. Most are on the wrong side of the state from me, but there are some good ones to be had.

This one went 185-190 or so typical.

shucks, you're just down the interstate from the good stuff.

I've seen that pic before but don't remember that the buck is from public land.

My experience Mo hunting has been confined to the SE portion of the state. I understand I need to get ~north of I-70.

You've hunted the worst of it then.;)

It would be better hunting in any other place of the state.

Yes that was a public land buck taken Sept 18th, three days into the bow season, by an out of stater. ;)

With the points restrictions going into at least the 3rd year, and more state land being added to point restrictions last year, things could get reallly good for public land hunting.

I've gun hunted north MO for 11-12yrs now, and the hunting it is head and shoulders above south MO.

Looking at boardering states, would you rather hunt Arkansas or Iowa....

Great deer.

I don't know what I'd do with myself if I ever got one like that. Do you keep hunting bucks, or just sit at home and look at the rack on the wall?

hmmm, I know exactly what I'd do.

Count my money and see if I have enough left to go to Ky or Mo before the rut ends. :D

Indiana is a one buck state as well.
