Golf Course Workers Accused Of Butchering And Eating Dog

Two former golf course workers accused of butchering and eating a patron's pet dog two years ago have pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.

Saturnino Palting and Nelson Domingo, who had theft charges dropped as part of a plea agreement Wednesday, face a maximum five years in prison when they are sentenced in July.

The dog's owner, Frank Manuma, says Caddy, a 8-month German shepherd-Labrador mix, vanished after being left tied up near a maintenance shed.

Witnesses say they saw the Kalihi men load the 50-pound dog into a car and drive away at the end of their shift at the Moanalua Golf Club on Dec. 16, 2007.

The club fired the workers and investigators later told Manuma the two men butchered and ate his pet.

I have never understood the custom of eating dogs. The American Indians used to eat their dogs but only as a last resort in times of famine and extreme hunger. Before the horse dogs were their form of carrying loads so only the hardest of times dictated that you eat your transportation.

I know their are cultures that eat dogs as a matter of course. Dog meat just can't be that good. I hope I never have to find out but if I do I'm eating that little barking SOB next door first!

There was a documentary on a while back and now that I think about it, it was probably Manswers if you can call that a documentary. Anyway they said that cat was better for you than dog because it has a higher level of protein per pound. They closed down an Asian restaurant here some years back for serving dog. I guess they were not so blatant as to list leg of Labrador on the menu, but it was finding it's way into the stir fry often enough. Not much of a stray dog problem in these parts back then.
