View Full Version : Got one....
I did a little extra shooting while the board was down... Picked up my first RH, and it was an honest one. First shot (at the nock of an old, busted alumalog) missed by under an inch--just a hair to the right, but the vertical was about perfect. And I've been getting so cocky lately that I was willing to shoot at the same target twice, because I figured that first shaft wasn't exactly where where I was aiming...
Second shot, I heard something kinda funny and saw something bounce back... What's kind nifty, too, is the fact that I was shooting in-between the #1 and #2 pins at about 27-28 yards....
So now I'm down to 3 arrows for shooting and 2 hung on the wall  :D
I suppose there are those who would nit-pick over the fact that my first shot wasn't 100% exactly on where I was aiming, so I suppose you could say I made the same mistake twice..... But I'm giving myself credit for a full-on RH, because if my bull had been a 50-cent piece, I would've been on it with the first shot. Obviously, I just need to make a minor sight adjustment ;)

Way to go GF! :D
I lost two arrows on Saturday. :( But it was nice to get out shooting.
I busted one arrow while shooting at the 50 yards bag from 90 yards - hit the wooden frame.
Had another one glance off the frame and go who knows where. That one hurt because it had a lighted nock on it...
I had another buddy dry-fire his bow on the 3D course. That's gotta be 4 people I've seen do that right in front of me. People get to talking, and somehow forget to load an arrow. I've also seen this at the rifle-range with Muzzleloaders. I've managed to stop two of them from shooting an unloaded bow, but couldn't stop my friend on Saturday. I was yelling STOP! DON'T SHOOT! STOP! And he shot anyway. He thought I was just trying to razz him!
Ghads! Fortunately, the bow didn't blow up but it did cave-in the peep and a shrink-wrapped weight flew off his string. We carefully inspected the bow. No other obvious damage.
That's something I hope to avoid...permanently...
It does make me wonder, though... It sems like I get a fair amount of limb noise on the shot compared to some other bows I've heard (or nearly not heard...).
We're watching the nickels extra closely until we find out what kind of financial aid package we can get for #1 Son this year, so for a while here I may become an even bigger cheapskate than usual (assuming that's possible  ).
So whatever I do to quiet it down, I'll probably do in stages... Don't know if I should go with a stab or a string-stopper first... I think I'll leave limb silencers 'til last if I can, seeing as that's the option most likely to slow things down.... And o' course now I'm going to be needing a dozen new boollitts and some heads....

For what it's worth... We're thinkin' maybe the string stopper may have helped save the bow the guy dry-fired.

do you mean limbsavers?
I have them on every compound I own and view them as required equiptment. I doan like to shoot a bow without them.

There you go again....
So would you start off with the limbsavers or the string stopper? (any and all thoughtful opinions welcome, no need for anybody to agree with anybody else...:D )
Just gotta keep any purchases low-profile, having just blown myself to the new sight....
I like the limbsavers and you'll notice a difference. Well worth the investment. IMHO
Quarter sized stickers and quit shooting at the same aim point or you'll be out of ammo by summer.
I'm getting the Bowtech Admiral next month, it will probably be so scary I'll have to hide to take it out of the case on opening morning just to keep from killing more than my limit. I may not even have to shoot it.

limbsavers first, I don't use a stringstopper as of yet.
see if this works for you;
limbsavers for solid limb bow (http://cgi.ebay.com/Sims-LimbSaver-Original-LimbSaver-For-Solid-Limb-Bows_W0QQitemZ140314593420QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_De faultDomain_0?hash=item140314593420&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)
only ones I saw listed at present.
limbsavers will increase your accuracy even more by making the bow more comfortable to shoot, not to mention the noise reduction.

Limbsavers are amazing. I remember the first time I shot a bow with Limbsavers. I had shot bows for roughly 30 years and was well accustomed to the vibration...then I shot one with Limbsavers.
I have to say that Limbsavers fall in that tiny 2-3% of products that really live up to their claim.
I have not tried the string stoppers. Of course I am still shooting an 11 year old bow. If I upgrade I am sure the new bow will have them. They get great press and look like a worthy addition to the bow. Logic tells me that a bowstring should last longer because it does not have to endure that forward vibration with each shot.
Just curious....for someone who has shot a bow with the string stoppers, does it eliminate the string slap on the wrist?
FWIW, I've not been slapped by El Commandante yet... Not even once. So maybe it's something about your technique?
For me, it probably has something to do with the fact that my elbows have never been able to fully extend. A lot of people have elbows that hyperextend to some degree, but they must've goten the range that I'm missing. Guess I was just born to shoot a bow, 'cuz I can lock my bow arm, and no part of my anatomy falls in the same plane as the bow string until you get to the base of my thumb...
Not that I get off so easy with the recurve, mind you
OK, so now I've gotta track down a set of Limbsavers for a split-limb design. Once I've got one in hand, you can tell me where to stick it....
But yeppers.... I've gotta start sprayin' 'em around the target a bit more if I want to make these last a while longer... Maybe since I'm down to 3 shooter shafts, I'll stick three old arrahs in the dirt and work my way across.
Damndest thing... I told my wife this the other night and she thought it was pretty cool... On the shots that snap clean through the old shafts, I know it's gonna happen before I'm conscious of the fact that I've even let the shot go....
Must be a Zen/zone thang...

'All about being in the zone'....
Even more so with a tradbow. My last bow-kill, I was in so far that I still see it perfectly--I had my spot all picked out, and saw him crouch just a bit as I let 'er go....So I just stayed with my spot 'til the arrow buried right in there...
If I can get a repeat this Fall, it'll be my first in ten stinkin' years....
And how the hell did that happen???
But maybe if I can find my wife a second or third job, I can spend more time on hunting:D
