I'm looking to scope a new Sako A7 in 7 Rem. Mag. I'm torn between the Zeiss conquest 3.5-10 or a Leupold V3 3.5 - 10 with the Boone and Crockett reticle. I already have conquests on other rifles. The B&C intriques me for some reason.

Wish I could help, but most of Leupy's are antiques! Might try the optics forum.

I have the Leupold 3.5-10 Boone and Crockett on my 300Win Mag. It is a very nice scope.

I've heard about that B&C reticle, but I don't know what it looks like or what they use it for. Range estimation maybe? That is coming from a guy who has never held high on anything so the standard old duplex has always worked for me.

The Leupy B&C reticles are pretty nice. Some folks consider them "too busy" but I like them. They work well. You may also wish to consider the Conquest Z600 or Z800 hold-over type reticle. The glass is better than the VX3..IMO. The ballistic programs (on the Zeiss website) are quite user friendly. Good luck.

Bob257......Now both are fine rifle scopes! I don't care for the B.C. reticule because I use mil-dots in several of my hunting scopes. Everything is 3.6 inchs between dots at 100 yards.

Just put one on my old 06--haven't fired it yet-- still reading the owners manual-I am kind of guy who usually throws all directions out upon purchase- we'll see what i think this week- i do like Varmit Hunters reticle i have on 223 and long range reticle on my 22-250 BUT all said and done duplex has always worked for me when Hunting.

Leupold has discontinued the "old" vari-x-III line and come out with a new one per a short article in Shooting Times. Apparently this raised the prices about 15% but it is supposedly as good as it gets compared to any scopes out there. I don't know how to tell one of the new ones from the old ones if I was in a store looking to buy. I would hate to find out later that I bought an old one.

But I gave up on variables several years ago and now use a straight 6x on my hunting rifles. And most include heavy duplex reticles. I have both older Leupys and one Sightron II. Both of these have been replaced with newer models but why change if they work as well as they do?

The problem is one develops an itch now and then for something new and perhaps exotic. Maybe a new caliber, a new rifle, a new reticle, a new hunting rig, etc. Perhaps someday I'll develop the itch for a new scope? Why am I in this post anyway? Am I itching? :)Greybeard/

I took three rifles to SD last week for PD shoot--man those varmit hunter and long range reticles are both super--Once I got used to prairie shooting again I was pretty consistent out to 400yds with occasional hits at 600+

How was the shooting this year? Where did you go? We did really well Just west of White River last June. 3 days of continuous shooting (all off the reservation), then the 3 day rain started...

Back in the '90's I had Premier Reticles make up 2 Leupold scopes for the 2 rifles I took. One 6.5 X 20 for a .22-250 Imp, and a 4.5 X 14 for a .222, both with Hart Barrels.
They both have a reticle something like this, dots are all 3 min. apart (but their straight :D it's hard to draw :p ). Makes shooting the far ones a lot easier. Last trip I got one at 556 yards with the .222 !
My farthest was one at 725 with the .22-250 IMP.

Our set ups are pretty pedestrian--Just guns-ammo homemade benches(look like yours) and lawn chairs orin my case because of space going out a fold up camo hunting chair with Herter's boat cushion(circa 1968)-Our shooting is all on private land about 35 miles from Rapid City-it was good this year BUT most dogs were small- mama's annd papa's either hid ior were long gone--My problem the first day was that i have been shooting a lot of trap & Skeet-hence i pulled rather than squeezed trigger for a while-weathwer beautiful-and very little wind which is so unusual for SD.
I used three scopes-one with varmit reticle=-one with Long Range ret and one with a heavy duplex--Next year I'll have two Varmit hunters-also with different cal one has some problems adjusting BUT We use this shoot mostly for hunting practice and FUN--In Sept we will shoot near Billings and in Oct at malta when in Goat camp. I have NOT shot any dogs over 650yds and that Very seldom--
