I was in a gun shop yesterday and saw a U.S. Model of 1917 in original very good condition. The hang tag price was $999.00. While I was there someone bought it. I already have various 1917s so did not want the rifle. I guess I better up the value of my surplus arms. All the best...

Gil,
Military surplus arms are a very good investment. If I had had $2,500 in 1961 I would be a millionaire today. I saw many Lugers for $35.00, P-38s for $25.00, Webley MK VI .455 revolvers for $15.00, and these were all in Excellent+ condition. !903 Springfields were $30.00 and 03-A3s were $25.00. Mausers too numerous to count were in the $15.00-$35.00 range and matching bayonets were $1 to $5.00.
Be glad you bought in at the right time. I sure am.
