Cleaning out wife's Grandpaw's place over the long weekend. When i got done, Mom-in-law presented me with Grandpaw's grandfather's pistol, which I believe is nickel-plated; ivory grip with a sculpture of a guy who looks as if he must've been a general on the left-hand panel.

It's not 'mine', she said, but I'm in charge of it until #2 son inherits the job of museum curator :D Either that, or she said we could sell it to help pay for his hearing aids. Honestly, I'd hate to think it was worth enough to make that worth pursuing, because it's not every day that you come into possession of a 143-year-old six-shooter. Not that it's likely much of a 'shooter' if we're down to the last 10 rounds in existence ;) (Do they still make .32 SRF?)

Anybody have an idea what it might be worth, or where I'd go to find out?

The finish is almost completely gone on the cylinder, and there are a number of fine lines in the remaining nickel where it looks like the steel is bubbling up under the finish from underneath. Really nifty walnut presentation box, too.

I don't know if that's the sort of thing that you can have re-done & restored, or if it's worth too much 'as is' to do that to it... or if it's not worth messing with....

Any ideas?

26th edition blue book ( not the newest)...

100% = $3000.00

50% = $625.00

10% = $375.00

2 pin gets a premium, and 4" barreled guns get large premiums.

Thanks, Bill!

You might have to explain '2-pin', though....

Looks like a 6" pipe. Worth less than the 4", from the sound of it.

The amazing thing is how well it fits my hand. Kind of a dainty little thing, really.... Makes me want to be able to shoot it :D

GF......Bill has given you a very close general idea of what that pistol is worth. Now taking it to your local gunstore is not the way to go, you will have to get in touch with those who are somewhat collectors and find out what it would bring at auction. It could even go to as much as 4 to 6 thousand dollars if in excellent shape. Oh yes, please do put it in a very safe place!

Good to see you around, Hi-Ball :)

We have a local dealer that specializes in antiques, so at least I can get a start there. Hoping to be able to post a few pics - even if just to show it off a little. I'd think that the carving on the ivory grips would make it somewhat unique and maybe worth more, but as I said, it'd almost be a shame if it were really valuable, because the more it's worth, the harder it is to justify keeping it rather than dealing it off....

It's probably in 'good' condition
