I dropped into a cabelas for the first time in my life and I crapped my underware when I saw numerous world class whitetail, a truely world class dall sheep and some absolute monster elk mounts. OMG .. these are not replica mounts so I was told.. I am still in shock!

Cabelas and Bass Pro are both worth visiting just for their huge aquariums and game mounts.

I think both those stores are great places to take the kids or just look and admire those outstanding animals in full mounts. The Bass Pro Shop at Sprindfield, Missouri is really set up nice for the fish in various settings. Hemingways upstairs has great food also!

Those stores are great for looking at very well mounted animals. I have been in several of them as well as Sportsman's Warehouse.

A large gunshop in Hatfield, PA had a whitetail mount that was fantastic. I would always admire it when in the store. The owner finally told me the horns were a copy of another mount. The horns were made in an injection molding process.

I think some of the racks in these stores are made the same way. It really doesn't matter as they are a copy of the real thing and more people can enjoy seeing them.

I must admit I have not inquired at a Cabellas as to the nature of the racks on the animals.

You oughtta stop in to the Ft. Collins DOW Service Center if you're ever out in CO. They've got a mount there... or at least used to. I don't know what the record is that it holds.. probably CO state, anyway.

And don't know how many feet long the mainbeams are, but if you can walk past that mount in under 2 minutes, you must be in one helluva hurry. Either that or you know jack about big Elk...

There used to be a few beauties at the Buckhorn Bar in Laramie, too. The mounts were old and pretty badly stained with the smoke of a few million cigarettes, but the racks were sure nice to look at just the same...
