Had quite the startle last night! Just before going to bed, my Wife and I took our dogs out for last call. My Wife went one way and I went the other. It was quite dark and light rain. My dog did his thing pretty quick but as we were headed back to the house, My dog looked in the direction of the neighbors driveway and started to growl and the hair on his back stood straight up.

I flashed my head lamp to the right and saw two yellow eyes at about waist high walking with a gate from side to side. Yep, you guessed it, Bear!!! Oh , I meant BIG BEAR!!! He was only about thirty feet away. I yelled to my Wife "Bear" and saw her run up our driveway to the house. The bear just stopped in its tracks and the staredown started.

It only lasted a few second but felt much longer. He then turned sideways giving me a good look at his height and he was at least three feet high. the space between his eyes were quite wide giving his head a large appearance. They are hungry this time of year. I'm just glad I didn't become his snack!!

I know I would have something on my person to aid me fast, if such an occurance were to take place around my home. Like a pull 12 gauge pump gun with Dixie Terminator Slugs.

I did not have a firearm close buy but I never leave the house without pepper spray. Too many loose dogs around here. I don't have just any pepper spray in my back pocket. I carry pepper spray called Guardian Angel. I bought it from Cabelas. It has a muzzle velocity of 80 miles per hour. I don't know if that would have stopped an attack, but I assure you that I had my trigger finger on it.

Would have been just your luck to have run into a Bear that liked his Midnight Snacks to be a bit on the "SPICEY" side.
