One of my internet friends sent me some golfball size acorns and I planted some of them today in one of my planters. I'll probably plant the rest over the weekend.

One of my hobbies is growing specialty oaks from acorns so these may be interesting. :)

How are you fixed for red oak acorns? Every two years my 6 oak trees bless me with a bumper crop of acorns and this is their year again. My neighbor that knows trees said those brown, strand things that are falling all over everything this year are their flowers. Well, they sure don't look like flowers and are a huge nuisance. If the amount of those "flowers" is any indication, I'll have thousands of pounds of acorns this fall. Without my Bear Cat lawn vacuum a.k.a. the nut sucker, I'm not sure I could cope with the harvest.

thanks for the offer but red oak acorns aren't in the plan right now ... and I already have plenty anyway. :D

Various varieties of white oaks are the plan for now. The ones I'm planting at present are Burr Oak acorns like the ones in this short video;

http://www.ehow.com/video_2329375_grow-germinating-oak-acorns.html

Now anyone with access to English Oak (http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Home/trees/oak_eng/tabid/5393/Default.aspx) acorns or most especially, varieties of the evergreen Holm or Holly oak (http://www.forestry.pt/holm-oak.html) acorns could be a real pal and send me a pm. :)

man this stuff really works. :)

June ain't the best time to plant or move grapevines but a friend gave me a scuppernong from one of his ancient vines on the 16th and I promptly planted it. I kinda halfway expected it to wither away but today it looks very happy, like it's been growing there all along. :)

I walked out the back door early this morning, and out of the corner of my eye I caught a woodchuck running from the garden..... :( :(

I moved the CZ .17 HM2 close to the back door .... :mad:

I've got rabbits like a plague.

Took care of the g-hogs a couple years ago. Must have shot 12 the first summer we were at the new place. Less and less every year since then. None this year.:cool:

Those g-hogs were living under the shed, behind the garden, and making their way under the barn. Killing off the seed was just what I needed! There is still a good sized hole by the garden, but if he's there, he hasn't showed himself yet.
