I did not know you could get more than one tag for elk in CO. Pretty good deal if you can.

You can only have one bull tag all units west of I-25 you have to draw for a cow elk tag we also have either sex elk tags and that tag counts as a bull tag. They have list A, list B then list C and those list will tell you what and how many tags are allowed and in what combination.

Out east of I-25 most of those elk units ( total of 53)are on private ground and those are unlimited plains either sex elk tags you can buy one or hundred. Some of the big ranches get top dollar for a good bull season runs Sept 1 thru Jan 31.

The ranch I'm hunting antelope on I'll get a plains elk tag never know.

Everything is a draw situation here in AZ. I've had some people tell me they have not been drawn in over ten years.

You have a good deal in CO.

We have some elk/deer tags that may take 15 pts to draw alot will put in for those units don't draw but get a point then may draw on their 2nd/3rd choice. We only have two OTC seasons for elk west of I-25 and their trying to make those draw tags also.

I use to rope and we get down to one the end of Jan in Scottsdale seen some big bulls crossing hwy 17 south of Flagstaff and we go up to Payson heading home hwy 87 then hwy 260 seen some small herds of elk out of Herber taking the cut off to Holbrook.

I just got drawn for elk in New Mexico.

I've never been after elk, so now I'm really looking forward to October.

AZ does have a good elk population with some big bulls. New Mexico also is one of the top states for big bulls. Elk are easier to hunt here than mule deer or coues deer. Actually coues is the most difficult by a long shot.

The critical part of elk hunting is making a good first shot. A wounded elk is a power house when wounded and seem to just soak up the shots after being wounded.

The other way to get more than one Elk tag per year in CO is to buy an OTC cow-only archery tag (for about half the cost of an either-sex tag). You get one of those and you're almost guaranteed to see the biggest bull of your life, and inside of 20 yards, to boot! (Note - this only seems to work for people who are too honest to shoot the damn bull anyway :D )

They're not available everywhere, IIRC, but for most places west of I-25 (aka 'the valley highway' :D ) and then you can hunt a bull tag for firearms or an either-sex for archery. Not sure if you could cow-hunt archery and bull-hunt the BP season, but man, if you could it'd about be worth burning the whole year's vacation time all at once

But then you know what'd happen....

I may yet talk myself into Elk hunting this year. My dad's getting on, and it'd be a good opportunity to visit with him on 'days off' from the hill. Time's getting short, and I don't think I'm in shape to go after it day after day the way I did 10 years and a torn ACL ago...

It took me 23 years to get a speed goat tag here in Az. Many years ago I've decided I'm only putting in for quality tags in Arizona and hunt other states where you can get tags over the counter for the meat. Even with turkey after this fall draw I'll have 9 bonus points, because I only put in for the Gould spring hunt. Living here in Pinetop also affords me the opportunity to take alot of friends hunting for elk and turkey so I still get the thrill.
