Dave Hawk mentioned the Slug-Go soft plastics for pike and I am wondering how those new Gulp minnows might work on the back of a jig? One of the reasons that a lot of the guys in our Canadian fishing camp don't get the bigger walleyes is because they go after them with 2" tiny minnows. They make these Gulp things up to 4" long and pretty meaty looking. Finding big fish with electronics is never a problem. It is getting those big old smart fish to bite. We can't get minnows that big, but I could bring in those Gulp plastic minnows to see if they would eat them. Anyone tried them with success?

I know the salt water guys are saying it is better than live bait. I have played just a little with gulp worm without luck, but I was never good with worms. One thing I can say with any Gulp is keep it in the juice or water, Dry it gets stiff and is impossible to rehydrate.

I don't buy gulp prducts often, but with using the Berkly power baits it does seem like there is somthing special about them, even if it is only a light edge.
I'd go for it, nothing to lose but a few bucks, and quite possibly could have a big gain. I'd buy one or two packages each in 3 different colors and give it a shot. If you're like me before a fishing trip, you'd be trying something new/spending money anyway. ;)

The Berkley Power Bait twister tails did work better than the plain white plastic ones. I couldn't tell the difference just looking at them, but I guess the fish could.
Okay, I've got two little pails of those Gulp Smelt Minnows now. 2.5" for the back of jigs and 4" to tease the bigger fish with. I'll let you know how they work. At least they won't die like regular minnows.

I'm up at fishing camp right now and so far have only tried the 2.5" Gulp minnows. I would say that they do not work nearly as well as live minnows or strip bait on the back of a jig. I've caught two fish with them and can compare my number of hits to my partner. I think that a Power Bait twister might even out fish them. Fish hit them pretty fast and let go just as fast from what I can tell.

I was talking with my buddy who just got back from Canada and he told me that he went ten for ten casts on walleyes using those Gulp minnows on a jig. He went on to say that they were all over the slot size of 18" so they couldn't eat them. I thought that it was getting pretty deep about then as I reached for my manure boots. My next visit over there I'll need pictures and exact coordinates to where he went. I think that those Gulp minnows catch fish, but not as well as natural bait.
