Anyone know what the lower velocity limit is that will ensure the .510 caliber 570g TSX bullets expand? If they leave the muzzle of my 500 Jeffery at 2300 fps, they will be going just under 1900 fps at 200 yards which is probably the maximum range I would shoot it.

Chuck that is one real pretty rifle! I would think that even 2100 fps would do a job on any buff in your Jeff! I know I don't want to sit at the bench shooting those bullets at 2300fps.........Spells OUCH OUCH OUCH!!!

I have to agree with Hi Ball, That is one gorgeous rifle. I always look at rifles like this as art work to be displayed even though I realize it isn't the best thing to do.

I don't think it matters if it expands or not. It's going to make at least a .50 caliber hole, which is great for anything this side of elephant and buffalo. For those you need solids for follow on shots anyway, assuming you would not try the first shot at such a range. For plains game, a typical .30 caliber bullet would probably be lucky to expand to .50 anyway.

I don't think the point of expansion is so much for the increased diameter of the bullet as it is for the destruction against the flesh it imparts to bring about that expansion. That having been said, a 570 grain projectile at 2,300 fps will surely kill any critter on earth, perhaps even the guy pulling the trigger when the recoiling stock whip-snaps his spinal cord and the rotating barrel splits his skull down the middle.

(Chuckscap: just funning wif ya. That's a beautiful rifle, but be careful with it.)
