Has anyone got a handle on the reloading supply shortage yet?
I don't need anything yet but will before this fall.
I went into Midway's site and noticed they list very few powders
and say no back orders.
Do you think this one of those situations where everyone panicked
and created a shortage? Like a shortage of toilet paper before a big
storm.
I'm hoping that by later this summer things will calm down and the
supplies will be back to normal.:o

Yeah, I've been keeping tabs on it. The panic has slowed a little, but supposably there are several bills being contemplated against firearms. BUT, many democrats have reportedly jumped ship and won't vote against firearms. I have seen just about all powders still available. Primers are still hard to get, but every now and then they come out. You must keep tabs on it every day. Cabela's was supposed to have a new shipment of CCI LG Rif primers on 3/28, but that was the opener for turkey here. I went turkey hunting. I could have ordered on the cell from the woods, but it is not that important to me. Like Altjaeger said before the crash; I'll just take out the first bad guy and get his stuff. :D

LampLighter,
Funny you should say that, I just got an E-Mail about doing something like that...
To The Guy Who Tried To Mug Me Downtown
Savannah Georgia Night Before Last ...
Date: 2009-03-13, 3:43 A.M.
I was the white guy with the black Burberry jacket that you demanded I hand over shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I hope you somehow come across this message.
I'd like to apologize. I didn't expect you to crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. Truth is, I was wearing the jacket for a reason that evening, and it wasn't that cold outside.
You see, my girlfriend had bought me that Kimber Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol, and we had just picked up a shoulder holster for it that evening.
Beautiful pistol, eh? It's a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head, isn't it?
I know it probably wasn't a great deal of fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge flopping about in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse since you also ended up leaving your shoes, phone, and wallet with me. I couldn't have you calling up any of your buddies to come help you try to mug us again.
I took the liberty of calling your mother, or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, and explaining to her your situation. I also bought myself and four other people in the gas station this morning a tank full of gas on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful!
I gave your shoes to one of the homeless guys over by Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all of the cash in your wallet. I threw the wallet in a fancy pink "pimp mobile" parked at the curb after I broke the windshield and side window out and keyed the driver's side.
I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. They'll be on your bill in case you'd like to know which ones. Ma Bell just shut down the line, and I've only had the phone for a little over a day now, so I don't know what's going on with that. I hope they haven't permanently cut off your service.
I could only get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI with it. The FBI guy was really pissed ... and we had a long chat (I guess while he traced the number).
I'd also like to apologize for not killing you and instead making you walk back home humiliated.
I'm hoping that you'll reconsider your choice of path in life. Next time you might not be so lucky.

I buy them when I see them. Even if they will only sell me 100 at a time, I just buy what I can, when I can. I'm not too concerned about powder but primers are the thing. This whole primer shortage thing might well build a case for a reusable electronic ignition system. If the case had something like a spark plug inside. The charge could be built up by something like those shakable flashlight generators. Just shake your rifle like an old daisy BB gun and fire away!
If these folks weren't just dead set on taking our guns away we wouldn't have to worry about these things.

I think it's entirely a hoarding issue. Folks aren't shooting more or needing more, but they want to get all that they can now. I'm set pretty good on powder, but wish I had a few more boxes of primers myself. It looks like projectiles are eveerywhere, well all of the brands but Barnes.

The supply shortage may ease up, but the prices never will and you can thank the horders for that. Not only are they buying everything is sight, but paying almost anything asked to do so. We went through a similar thing in the early 90's when primers were 11 bucks a brick retail around here, they quickly went up to 16-18 if you could find them. Then stayed at near that price for years because the supliers realized they could get it, not because the manufacturers had raised there prices that much.

My local gun store get in several cases of pistol bullets and brass. We've been without for a while. The bullets were Montana Gold. I asked them if they anticipated the other calibers. They said Montana Gold would be supplying more once they finish this run and retool for the others.
