I think because of childhood memories. Houston is coastal prairie divided by creeks and bayous that are lined with thick forests of postoaks (along with pine, willow oak, water oak, and sweetgum, mainly). These creek borders can be as wide as 1/4 mile on each side, on the largest bayous. The older neighborhoods were built in these forests, as they were the most desirable areas, and all the parks were filled with post oaks (and still are). I grew up playing under these trees; the neighborhood I grew up in was filled with them.
