I've read on some of the dedicated knife sites that Condor is coming out with a new line of carbon steel machetes to complement their stainless line. Their stuff seems to have a pretty good reputation among users.
I've seen a few guys do custom multi-edge modifications on machetes. They often convex the main edge (especially near the sweet spot) and put a really fine scandi edge on the first four inches in front of the handle for fine, detailed work. Sometimes they also put sharp corners on the spine of the blade so that it can be used for scraping things---like bark off wood. Also for striking firesteels.
When the new Condors hit the market in a few weeks I'm thinking about getting a longer jungle machete and one of the shorter, lighter goloks.
Anyone have a good machete or modification stories?
