View Full Version : Any New Steel You're Packing?

I haven't bought many knives lately but I'm thinking about it. I'm considering a Nessmuk made out of really thin steel for fine, light-duty cutting. Maybe also one of Condor's budget-priced scandis that ought to be out in a few weeks.
Anybody buy anything cool while HA was being converted to the new server and ramped up again?

Haven't bought anything new in quite awhile but was given a Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn combat folder as a gift recently. Nicely made piece of cutlery but I'm not real sure what to use it for since I rarely get into knife fights.

Yeah, it's been a long time since my last knife fight---and we were using only rubber knives at a martial arts academy!:D
I have several Eck knives that are 90+% stabbers. Also a few custom daggers. I sometimes keep one on my desk to open letters because, like you, that's the only "use" I can make of it (unless you consider admiring nice work a "use").
Perhaps you need something like a vintage MkII Gerber fixed blade to keep it company!;)

I like Ernie's work, despite the prices.
When I see him at a show I always kid him that he owes me a freebie for helping to develop the hardchrome finish he uses. Ernie's hardchroming is done by a friend of mine and the early development work (long before Emerson was a client) was done with 3 of my blades.
Have you ever played with those Captains of Crush hand exercisers that Ernie usually has at his knife show booth? They are incredible.

Yesterday I picked up one of these to try out. It's made by that custom knife maker, Mr. Roebuck.

Is that D2 steel? I have their Muskrat Skinner in D2 and it performs well.

I actually went in to buy this knife in D2 but they didn't have it. This one is S30V.
My brother-in-law has the D2 version and is really happy with it. I'm hoping that this blade will be as good.....
