Obviously it was a reality show rather than a training film. However, it did do a fairly good job of showing the effects of calorie deprivation. They just weren't able to get enough food with the level of effort they were expending. Personally, I would have put more time in to hunting, fishing, and trapping.
I liked the fact that the show spent more effort focusing on the struggle against the elements---as opposed to the bickering usually featured on reality shows.
Any thoughts on the programs?

They seemed all to content to go hungry and not gather food.
I did think it was kind of funny at one camp the way that they saved the heads of the small game that they were able to take. It showed that the hunters were proud of their accomplishments eventhough in "real life" wherever they came from they probably wouldn't have done that for a weeks pay. ;)

It was a good trick to drop them the first day with a big load of crap and not much time to sort it. Taking it all was a mistake, even though it probably didn't cause them terrible hardship right off. No way in hell would I have packed all that stuff. A lot of it would have become what rock hounds call "leaverite" ("leave 'er right there" because that rock's not worth hauling out).
I also thought it was amazing that on one of the first days they were considering taking an untried and umarked route over a small mountain to get a better look at the terrain---rather than following the trail marked on their map. Absent some sound reason to think that the trail was problematic, I certainly wouldn't have decided to leave it before even trying the thing.

I liked it better than the one last year. I wonder though if it was on purpose that the 2 skilled people dropped out first? I thought they did a surprisingly good job of showing how hunting serves a purpose and that killing animals isn't such a bad thing, especially with guns. In fact, it's a necessity to keep humans alive when it's just them and mother nature.
If you go to their website there is a list of the stuff in the first pile. They took everything in it, including the condoms!
