I recently went to a gathering of wilderness/survival forum guys. I pulled out a Buck Strider 888 Solution (BG-42 version) but it didn't get much love from the bushcraft crowd. They particularly disliked the handle.

Lately I've been carrying a titanium version of the venerable 110. I've heard it called a "Buckabenza"---sort of a poor man's version of the legendary Chris Reeve titanium framelock Sebenza.

So what Bucks are you carrying these days?

Bought any new ones?

I have two of those Ti-110's, four 110's from the Custom Shop, and just bought a new 532 with file work and bone handles.

My favorite carry is now the Buck 110 G-10, BG-42 in a custom Jack Ridder sheath.

You know I love the 110's but the Sebenza is always in the front knife pocket of my 5.11's.

I like what Buck does with BG-42. The G-10 must give it a pretty cool hi-tech look!

Of course, it's pretty hard to displace an EDC as nice as a Sebenza....

I was looking at the Buck Mini-Trapper, and came close to purchasing it untilI flipped it over to check out the opposing side of the blade.

It had those three words you hate to see on what I expected was a American made product.
Yes, It said "Made In China"

I took two steps to the left and realized the Case knife of the same style was still made here.

Anyway, if you want a inexpensive Buck here ya go

I have used a couple Chinese knives but I must admit that I never warmed up to most of them. I suppose it is inevitable that companies like Buck will have two lines of knives at different prices because many people just aren't willing to pay more for a better knife.

An old geezer hunting buddy of mine periodically pulls out a new knife to show me. Every one has been a Chinese or Pakistani knife that he got with some promotion or as a gift. I just say "interesting" and hand them back. I suppose they are fine to leave in your truck and/or toolbox but I can afford to carry better.

I guess Camillus going out of business didn't help Buck any in the small knife department.

I have several knives made in Taiwan and they are of good quality and will buy products from Allies.

Yes, there seem to be some decent knives coming out of Taiwan. Even the Paul Chen swords from the People's Republic of China look OK. Eventually the PRC may catch up to Taiwan in overall quality. Probably when the vast majority of the true POS knife production moves to Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc.

Many of us middle-aged and older guys remember when we were kids and "Made in Japan" was an emblem of junk quality. That sure changed!

I have been carrying a Buck 55 for the past two years.

Looks just like the 110, but half the size. Very slim profile, and I hardly notice

it in my pocket.

It has a 2 3/8 inch blade, and for me it's just right.:D

That is the next one on my buy list, next time I'm in Post Falls.

If ever on I-90 in Idaho, one really should stop at the Buck Factory. They are very friendly folks and the store has a lot of goodies not normally seen at WalMart, et.al. Nuff said.
