View Full Version : Anyone know the diameter of these?
I'm wondering what the diameter of this slugs might be? Anyone have them and can measure them for me?

Have you got a muzzleloader with a bore big enough to handle these?
The standard (nominal) diameter for 20 ga. is .62 and a 12 should be about .72 cal, IIRC.
Since the description says these use standard wads, I'd be surprised if the slugs were very much underbore, but either way, you're still talking about one mighty big hunk o' lead.....
What have you got planned???

Actually I do. I have a .62.
I got a reply from lyman.
20 gauge sabot slug .577
12 """"""""""""""""""" .682
20 gauge foster slug .606
12 """""""""""""""""""" .705
I'm thinking the 20 gauge sabot .577 might be played with if you had a .58. Also I'm thinking the 20 gauge foster slug .606 might expand enough to engage my rifled .62. Worth the experiment at least. :)
I'm not sure that the 20 ga. Foster weighs anything much different from a '.62' RB....
Wouldn't the PRB get less lead gunked into your rifling?
Sounds to me like the .577 sabot slug is just another way to say Minie Ball. I kinda wonder how the on-game performance would differ given the very flat front end of that thing vs. a pointier design, as well as what's the diff in bullet weight. Seems lighht for a .58. That might make it a poor choice for hunting anything bigger than deer, but might also make for a relaitively light-kicking target load in a .58.
Still quite a bit heavier than a PRB, though...
Me, I'm too cheap to buy a mold for a bullet that 'might' work when I know that a PRB will, but where would we be without tinkerers?
