I've been sorting out my new Gamo .22 Whisper.
Gamo scope went wacky after only a couple hundered pellets - kept loosing zero - so I put an old Tasco on and took off the factory spacer rail to get a better cheek weld. No idea why Gamo puts that silly rail under an already good one-piece scope mount ???
Replaced the cinder-block trigger with a GRT-III, now it's the way I like my chips - light and crisp.
found pellets it likes and now it's Whispering sweetly.
Anyone else having fun with one of these "big kid" guns ????

Bayrat, I started off with a beeman R-1, moved up to a Beeman Kodiac and had it fitted with a theobin gas piston from Dave Slade. The R-1 with a couple of hundred rounds or less quickly destroyed a Burris compact scope that I had on it. It now wears a Leupold Vari X III EFR scope and that scope has lasted through thousand of rounds. Its in 22 cal and can shoot pellets completely through 1/2 inch CDX plywood at 50 yds or so. Hardly a toy it is a lethal weapon.

Hardly a toy it is a lethal weapon.
Well that takes the fun out of it !!!!
My springer (in .22 also) can only leave a nasty dent in a pine board at 30 yards. But it does scare the cr@p out of a paper target. :D
Anyway, I bought it because Winter's too long. I can practice in my basement no matter what the weather is doing. And it's cheap to shoot. The plus for me is that, for a gun that cost a little more than $200.00, it's quite acurate.

Is there any such thing as an air rifle that is accurate out of the box, doesn't
need any parts changed to better parts, will kill a squirrel at 20 yards, and
doesn't cost a mint to own?

Squirrels at 20 yards, yes.
But to find such a gun at the lowest price ask that question here.

I'm amazed at how accurate some the cheap imported guns are for around $100.00.

These guns do keep you tuned up during the off season. It is relatively inexpensive and can be shot almost anywhere.

I use both my Beeman and my Diana Pistol on ground squirrels all the time and both will nuke a tree sized gopher aka ground squirrel quite nicely. The Beeman will even take Prairie Dogs out to 50 yds or so with head shots. It has a Beeman scope and no problems yet after a few thousand rounds.:)

I see this topic has been dead a while but there have been quite a few viewers so I just want to throw this out there.... I recently bought an AIR FORCE CONDOR air rifle in .22 cal. I wanted something to replace my RWS .177
Well, after 4 months of use, I am please to say I would recommend this to almost anyone!
I would say that it is as accurate as any if not all of the production air rifles out there... I am only saying this from my limited experience though.... I have made kills on pests as far as 50 yards. I am sure it would easily shoot farther but I have not tested it. At 20 yards, I can shoot 3 the size of a dime. I did install an RWS "Night Pro" scope, 3-9 x 44mm. Not the most expensive scope but it does the job nicely!
I borrowed my rifle to a friend who lives within the city limits and had nuisance racoons at his bird feeders. He said it was easily powerful enough to dispatch 3 of them at about 30 yards! The rife is not exactly quite though. It has a good crack to it very similar to a 22 cal. I do know there are ways to "supress" the noise and this is discussed in their web site.
My rifle is the CONDOR in .22 cal. You can also get them in 177 but I wanted the advantage of a heavier bullet in the wind. Some very nice features are the dial up power wheel and the attatched air tank for instant shooting without having to "pump". A couple of disadvantages is the cheap feel and location of the safety. :( I would prefer more of a realistic rifle saftey. The trigger has a bit of creep and doesn't break crisply. But it is still better than one of my old AR-15's!!!
The rifle was not cheap but I really do say I enjoy shooting pests with it. As a matter of fact, it is the first rifle I would grab for dispatching woodchuck sized animals and smaller at 50 yards or less!
For pressurizing the air tank, you could purchase a hand pump or use an attatchment for a scuba tank for charging. I went the scuba tank route as it is as simple as attatching the tank and turning a valve.... charged in seconds for many shots. For consistency, I charge it every 25-30 shots.
If your interested in an air rifle... check out the web site... Pretty cool... :)

I have a beeman kodiac in 22 cal thats been gone over by Dave Slade.. he installed a theobian gas piston and did a trigger job on it... it wears a leupold vari x III 6-20 EFR scope... its a pretty serious air gun as far as air guns go... I ran a test a few yrs ago and had pellets completely penetrate 1/2 cdx plywood at 50 plus yards and the accuracy and consistency is exceptional... a damn good air rifle... takes about 60 lbs of cocking force as i recall...
I never got into the precharge thing... needing to have a scuba tank around isnt something that appeals to me..

I know what you mean about the scuba tank... I have enough room in my shop where I just keep it in a corner by my reloading bench and other shooting equiptment. So, it is not really in the way at all.
I am just looking into getting my trigger worked on. Plenty of other mods to trick the Condor out too. But, it's to the point where I will have more into this rifle than many of my other hunting rifles including a couple of my AR's I have. But I like to have a rifle or two for every occasion! So... I'm covered from Blue Jay's to elephants! I just love guns!!!
I did chrony my Condor. If I recall, I was shooting right around 850 fps at about the 3/4 power setting... I'm not sure if there is much more in it if I turned it up with a full tank. I have not shot 1/2" CDX but I think it wouldn't have too much problem punching a hole through it at 50yds from what I have seen.
It may not be the best out there but I sure like it! :D

I understand that the precharged air rifles are more accurate than springers but also considerably louder... I've taken some large northern gray squirrels from a fair distance with my kodiac...
