View Full Version : Antler powder measure
I picked up an 80 grns. antler powder measure a few years back. It was at a ML gun show. I'm looking for a few more like 70, 75, 85, and 90. Anyone know where I can get some basic ones that won't cost me an arm an a leg?

Either use some of the tips of antlers you have laying around or get thee to a rendezvous and look for some antlers suitable for your purpose. A drill and/or a Dremel work just fine for hollowing out a chunk. Use an adjustable measure to check your progress.
JMO - every tradshooter ought to have 2 pet loads; the small game/plinker load and the gitterdone hunting load.
So two measures I can see, but not a whole rack of 'em....
I'm still trying to work out the right 'speed loader' for the .54. Spent .45/70 cases with a little cork shoved into the snout seem to hold too much for plinking (not that I can't use them for pre-measured loads at the range) but not enough for a back-up on a hunt. So I'm trying to figure out how I can carry one or two pre-measured 100-110 grain charges on a string around my neck without having to worry about the plug coming loose and lettig the powder get wet and/or dumped out.
Antler seems a likely choice for the container, but I'm still not sure how to build the plug....

Save the aluminum cigar tubes (petite corona or robusto) from Avo. They won't spark, are very light and will hold any sane powder charge. You CAN cut them down and plug them also.

35mm film canisters. If ya know some who still uses 35mm they are good for a lot of things.
