Today the wife and I purchased a couple of KEL-TEC PF-9's in the 9mm Luger caliber and will be taking them to the range in the morning for a little shooting trial. These new models do have a better trigger pull than the older # 11 model, a big plus in my book. They are also lighter and slimmer too, easier to conceal in hot weather, especially on a women. The single stacked mag only only holds 7 but that should be suffiecient in most cases. ;):)

I can only say, that if your looking for a pocket pistol or an easy choice for concealment, the KEL-TEC PF-9 will certainly fill the bill. ;)

The wife and I purchased 2 new KEL-TEC'S the other day and shot them this morning at the gun club before the frigging heat set in on us. Both pistols were fired at 6, 10 & 15 ft at targets with 4 inch bullseye.

The wife's KEL-TEC was able to keep 6 of 7 shots in the 4 inch circle at slow fire at 10 ft and 6 out of 7 shots at 15 ft slow fire. Now both these pistols have long trigger pulls and after putting 300 rounds through a couple of Glock 10mm's, it was some getting used to in referrence to the trigger pull of the KEL-TEC'S. These are the lightest weight 9mm Luger being sold today and you will feel the recoil into your hand but NOT something that will cause pain ok.

The reality check was when I put these two KEL-TEC'S into high gear and shot from a combat stance as fast as I could pull the pistol up out of the holster and fire on target at 6ft "Without Sighting" the gun.....Just point and FIRE!!!

Now at 6 ft I was able to keep a 5 shot group within a 7 inch MOA. for both pistols on average shooting as fast as I could rapid fire.

I also did the same thing with both pistols at 10ft only this time using their sights and sighting down the barrel. All shots were well under 6.5 inches on average. The wife's KEL-TEC printed one group of just over 5.5 ches but I'll say 7 for grins shooting "rapid fire" OK.:D Remember folks, these are NOT target guns or the highest quailty etc. They are very good up close back-up pistols in my humble opinion. Hello GC!:D

I am positive I could do better with both pistols and more practice time but this test was right out of the box and me NOT ever having fired either pistol until today. I used to be able to shoot 3 inch groups like this with a Colt Python in the 60 & 70's using 38spl ammo, just to give you some comparison, of how hard it is to group firing rapidly as fast as you can and I shot 10 times more back in those days folks. Now the good part about these KEL-TEC model PF-9's is that the cost per pistol is under $300 US AMERICAN DOLLARS and they are made in the U.S.A. too.

I would give both pistols a B+ rating for accuracy and concealment. I will also say we had NO JAMS or problems at all with these pistols. The 9mm Luger round does pack a punch in recoil but nothing most women cannot handle with a little practice. I would say that the PF-9 is twice the pistol of a Ruger LCP folks.
The trigger pull on any KEL-TEC is going to take some getting used to but they are not for shooting squirrels out of the tree tops. As a former LEO once stated, "They are a get the guy off your back type of pistol" and with it being a 9mm Luger caliber, it beats the heck out of the wimpy .380-auto caliber.

This morning it was back to the shooting range with the KEL-TEC'S and another 200 rounds shot out of each pistol. NO JAMS or problems once again. Very handy little concealment pistol that packs a "Big Smack" when using the Cor-Bon ammo at 1350ft per second, using a 115 grain bullet with 466 foot pounds of energy.

Monday it will be another trip back to the firing line with both pistols and using some Cor-Bon this time around......expensive but very necessarry to become familiar with the recoil of the HOT loads. Remember it has twice the knock down energy of the .380-auto caliber.:D

Today we ran an excercise, firing a "double tap" (2 shots per target fast) method on target. The PF-9 printed all groups into less than 5 inches and a couple of groups less than 4 inches at 6 feet from the target. I am getting more use to the long trigger pull and jump of the pistol at firing time.:)
