View Full Version : Which hi-cap 9?

Over the years, I've bought and sold four or five high cap 9's and currently find myself without one. I've had the Rugers...the Berettas....Smith's....and a Taurus.
With things in the gun world as they are....I've been thinking about picking up something new and have pretty much narrowed it down to two.
IA FNP9 and a CZ SP-01
Anybody have any experience with either or both that they would like to share?

I recently looked at the Springfield Armory EMP. I would have to say it was very nice and has been given positive reviews. I think it was 9 + 1 in a compact, carry package. However, it was rather pricey.
If you want classy, nothing beats the Browning Hi-Power. For double/single action I'd take Sig. For something that wouldn't cause you to cry if it fell over the side of the boat Glock 17 should work.

Scout,
IF you are talking modern plastic/polymer guns, then get a Glock M19. I got mine in 1989 and carried it on duty as a federal agent until I retired in 1996. Since I bought it, it was a Personally Owned Weapon (POW) and now it happily resides here on the farm.
I must say it went back to Smyrna, Georgia THREE times for refit because it QUIT on me and fortunately it QUIT all three times on the Range and not on the Street! NO, I DO NOT think the Glock is a SUPER gun that keeps on clicking-I had mine DIE three times and now carry a Colt M1911, which has yet to quit after 88 years of duty from granddad to me. Glocks are OK, WHEN they work! When it Absolutely MUST go bang, give me a Colt M1911.

I too will go with what GC has expressed in various brands of pistols! I have several Sig Sauer's and really like them but I feel more at ease with those ugly Glocks for life saving moments of getting the job done in spades. ;)
I looked at CZ pistols sometime ago but have never shot one yet.....maybe later this month I'll get the chance. It is very hard to not chime about the merits of a full size Glock for capacity in the 9mm Luger caliber. However, if your looking for beauty and workmanship, yeah gotta love those Browning High Power's. I knew several LEO's who carried them in the 60's & 70's.

Bugs,
The new Springfield did cross my mind....I've bout decided to pick up a XD in .40 as a companion to my Glock 23....but the high cap 9 version may be added to the short list. Thanks a lot:D
MOGC,
The full size Glocks just don't fit my hands. I had a Glock 22 that I quickly traded after I felt of a Glock 23. Still got that one. I like the way the Hi-powers feel but they seem a bit big to me also. I've only owned one Sig and I thought the trigger pull was too far of a reach for my hands. Picky, ain't I:rolleyes:
Badger,
I've got the Glock 23 and like it real well....but as has been said...they're pretty plain. I'm looking for something sexier! As to 1911's...I've got a full sized Kimber and a Officers Model Colt. I'm always on the lookout for a Commander to round out my 1911 "collection" but, at least for this round, I'm looking towards the high cap just cause I don't think they'll be around for much longer:mad:. I figure I'll be able to still buy ten round guns, at least for a while:eek:
Hi-Ball,
You are right....the ugly Glocks are about as simple and functional as what's out there. I've still got the one and if anything, would like to go down in size on my next Glock. Over the past few years (shortly after getting my CCW for the first time), I've started selling off the bigger handguns and only buying things I feel comfortable carrying. I'm short and wide with fairly small hands, so I'm picky about what I carry. Both the FNP-9 and the CZ SP-01 seem to fit my hand pretty well while still carrying lots of rounds. The Sig's I've played with the the Hi-Power just feels a bit large in my hand and on my side.
Thanks for the input....:D

Scout, check out the KEL-TEC PF-9, in 9mm Luger caliber. It is a lot of gun for it's size and holds total of 8 rds. Cor-Bon ammo can be got and at 1350fps at 466 in knock down energy it is nothing to sneeze at. I carry one as a backup and it is easy to hide!:D

Hi,
I got to play with one of the little Kel-tecs....they're great little guns for the money. I've actually got a Kahr P9 that really fills the bill for the very concealable 9's. It fits into a pocket or tucks easily in the waistban and is a great shooter.
I've just got the bug for a 9 that holds LOTS of rounds. Again, it's maily cause I'm thinking that you just won't be able to get em much longer. It'll be 10 rounds or less, I'm afraid.

Do a search for a CZ PO7
Very nice pistol, reviews are all very favorable
Accurate and whatI like best is it has a hammer
All of the striker fired pistols tend to have the firing pin spring under a certain amount of tension whenever a bullet is chambered.
Said amount of tension may be between 30 and 70% depending on the manufacture. I dont really care how many safety features are built into a pistol as this makes me a little uncomfortable. I also suspect the compresssion of said spring is likly to weaken a bit over time if you carry chambered on a regular basis.

SCOUT.........The KEL-TEC PF-9 is even smaller than the Kahr P-9 model. Anyway they sure make great concealment pistols for the ladies especially.;)
