Today it was hotter than a cat's A$$ on a Bar-B-Q grill!!! 97-degrees in the sun. So we decided to do a little reality check and shoot the pistols in various situations, that just could acure on the street or in your car.

The first was a sitting down position in a chair to simulate being behind the drivers wheel of a vehicle. The wife soon found out that drawing your pistol from a seated position is NOT the cat's meow! However, when pistol is tucked between her seat and the console, it works like a charm for her to draw and get off 3 shots out that window on target (which is above her shoulder at 3 feet away.

Next was the offside response to someone breaking the window and trying to jump into the vehicle with you, while your behind the wheel. This went pretty well after a couple of trys. Each time telling her "your ears are going to RING LIKE HELL" but you won't be dead, like the person trying to come into the vehicle with you.

Next time we will use a dummy to represent a passenger in the front seat next to her. This gets real tricky as matter of fact, however all things work out in the wash right! Best to use an old clunker for this excercise with no glass in window at first. ;):)

Hi Ball,

Many ranges do not permit realistic practice. That is why I bought a farm with several big hills for backstops for my projectiles. I often take shots from the seat of my moving John Deere at gongs, chucks and skunks in the hayfield.

Badger it seems like the police get more than their fare share of time setting up pistol tournaments and whatever it is they want to do as a group. I used to shoot all the time in back of our place but it is now getting to damn crowded around me and kids on atv's running at all hours of the day, many don't even go to school during the season (skip or play sick) and know that school is out it is almost impossible to be safe, even on my own land. I also have several dogs and those young ones I do not wish to have gunfire around them yet.

Most ranges are target practice only for the most part and that is not the way to practice real street scenes and reality in public as far as confrontations go. There are lots of things one needs to know and be able to do with a pistol on the street should something happen. If one does not practice those elements, you will be lost and NO TIME to look it up in a book or video etc. It should be like turning on a light switch.........Go! You don't think about it, it happens before most folks can blink an eye. This is what I try to accomplish with my practice sessions! I seldom shoot targets and nothing as far as competition goes, I don't need the trophy's are medals, got em already.;):)
