accouterments?
Some things I will buy at a shoot but I prefer to make my own. From clothing to priming horn.
I made about a dozen of these horns and put them on trade blankets, these are 2 I kept for myself.
Priming horn and day horn which holds about 62 shots for target shooting with 65 gr load.
Plugs or pins are made from Sweet Locus needles.
Strap is braided sinew.
Walnut butts carved.

DAve,

When I first started participating at rendezvous and such, I was on a much more restricted budget than now, I made as much of my gear as I felt I was capable of making. I have made a couple of powder horns. Where yours are much more like works of art, mine are meerly serviceable horns - they serve the purpose of dispensing powder, but are much more, shall we say, "rustic" as far as appearance and construction. My mother is a very good seamstress and, as a youngster, I watched her make clothing for me and my siblings as well as her personal apparel, picking up some techniques as I watched. It was not a stretch for me to sit down at the sewing machine and make my own rendezvous shirts, pants and capotes. I also have made many pairs of moccassins, possibles bags, knife sheaths, pistol holsters and camp chairs and containers. None of what I have made would be considered "top notch" goods except that they are still being used, some 18 years later. I was (and still am) relatively frugal and, at times, Abe and George would be screaming before I would part with them. Making what I could made me feel like I was more "invested" in the whole process and gave a lot of enjoyment along the way. YMMV

As an artist I like to play, I will take the time sitting by the camp fire and make something, sew something. That just seems to be the way of the rendezvous.

Dave,

About two years ago I bought a (clean) trash can full of leather scraps for $1.00. The seller poured the leather into a garbage bag for me and kept the can. I have made slings, possibles bags, 'hawk sheaths, cows knees, moccasins, and bullet bags and still have a pile of leather left for future projects.

I made my own possibles bag, bullet pouch, powder horn, knife and sheath, and I customized both of my rifles (refinished the metal and wood, and added some inlays to the stock). I've also tried knapping my own flints, but I usually buy them.

I have made a powder measure (70gr) out of an antler and leather lanyards from tanned deer hide.
Also some bottle openers

Twanger,

Nice horn powder measures. I like the bottle opener attachments. Would they be your "Thirst Aid Kits?"
