The governor signed a bill legalizing the the right for people with concealed carry permits to carry guns in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.

A local TV poll showed 68% of the people approved of the bill.

To obtain a permit each person must attend an 8 hour class, receive a background check, and demonstrate their ability to handle and fire a handgun.

If memory serves me correctly, about 277.000 people have permits in AZ.

AZ has always had an open carry law which does not require a permit.

Not sure guns mix well with alcohol in close proximity.

I've read that those who are packing are not allowed to drink.

We'd be better off being like the wild west again instead of the pussified legal system we have now. Anyone who is not way-off mentally or has a criminal record should be able to carry whenever and where ever. The only ones who should fear armed citizens is a tyrannical government and criminals.

many bars and clubs in alaska reserve the right to restrict guns from being taken into the club... some clubs will seach you before you are allowed to enter the club. If you don't want to be searched you can leave.

I could live with that. In Ny judges take it upon themselves to place restrictions on CC permits. Real crap.

In Iowa the law used to read not valid in any establishment that serves alcohol. The problem with that was then technically you could not carry in Pizza Hut, Joe's Steakhouse, or the corner 7-11. Some years ago the law was changed to read not valid while consuming alcoholic beverages, hence I can carry in Pizza Hut if I feel the need.
