My dump truck wouldn't dump yesterday afternoon. Pulled the knobs and the power takeoff to the box is spinning but the bed wouldn't lift. Doan seem like it's engaging somehow. Beat on it lightly some with a hammer :D

but to no avail. Only got about 9 tons on it. :o

We just unloaded an 18wheeler at the job and the boys are standin around waitin now. Guess I gotta seek some professional help or somethin. :(

Well, I found the problem and I doan know what to think ... well, ... I do but I really hate to think these things.

It looks like the truck was sabotaged. My men are hand unloading the 9tons from it now and then I'll get it to my hydraulic shop so I can get new pins made and verify some things. If the expert and I agree, then I'm filing a police report.

I have a strong suspicion. There are 3 professional roofing contractors locally and some jacklegs. One of these jacklegs .... well, I doan have any proof of anything but I hear he gets very upset when he lowballs a job and still doesn't get it.

I'll talk to the other two professionals later today and see if they've had any problems. I hate to think it's come to this. :(

... the expert says it's suspicous but it is possible the pins just 'came out', although he's never seen it before. Hopefully will be fixed today.

I'm gonna talk to the other contractors and see if they've had any problems but for now I'm gonna take the high road, just call it 'one of those things', and move on. It's an older truck anyway so it could happen.

Of course you checked the Hyd. oil level in the reservoir, but how about the linkage to the valve that raises/lowers the body?

The rams pushed the bed back instead of up, prehaps 10-12inches before I noticed something wasn't right and the bed wasn't lifting.

The back of the bed swivels on two pins. Those are the ones missing. If I hadn't caught it, in theory I could have pushed the entire bed off the truck. The man I have working on it will check it all out but everything else looked ok while ago.

I think the pins just worked their way out somehow, mainly because it didn't look like they both came out at exactly the same time. One hole had light rust starting while the other showed fresh use. Makes any one conclusion questionable.

Kind of a good day to care care of it anyway.

Ncbowman.......Pins don't just drop out on a dump truck! I would be keeping a close eye on it in the near future and check your brakes too ok before loads are put on the truck.
