We've been eating sweet corn from the garden but we didn't plant a lot.

Wed mornin I told my wife, somebody is gonna drop some more sweet corn off today.

'Good, I wanted some to put up.'

She weren't expecting 17 bushels.

I haven't told her the hybrid corn will be ready in another week and we're getting a load of that too. :D

I started grilling it with the husk on. Saw that on the Food Channel. I like it better than boiled.

As much as I'd like to plant sweetcorn, I just wont bother. My garden is on rich alluvial soil where everything grows well. It is also about forty feet from the banks of the Black River, a regular coon superhighway.;)

Well ,yahhhhh....

Discovered this a few years by now...

"Boiled" vs "Steamed"

BIG BIG difference!

Water at boiling is 212F. Steam can be much greater and also when under pressure.

W-a-y-y-y t-o-o-o many people drown their veggies and expect them to cook well. Steam can be superheated to over 400F. Learning where and when to use it is the trick. :p

You can pop 2-3 ears in a microwave and have it in 4 minutes or so too. Got to give it some time to cool down before you shuck them though.

Throwing them on the grill is good, but it takes a while to cook them that way.

With my sweet corn this year, I've about decided the coons won this round.:( How many of those thing do you have to kill before they give up? 6 so far and they hit me hard again this weekend while I was away visiting family. They play dirty in my opinion.

Typically, one family of raccoons this time of year consists of 6 to 10 individuals. :o

I've taken out 4 big males and 2 mature females. No kits, which was half of what I got last year before they finally gave up on my corn.

I can't decide if what is left is worth fighting over. I've got a spare fridge more than half full of corn now, but it ain't half of what would have been without the durn coons horning in.

I'm going to run a small hotwire around it next year. The locals say that or a pair of dogs chained on either side of the corn patch is the only way to deter them.
