Well guys...so far looks like we won't have too much competition to deal with this fall. There will be plenty of elbow room.;)

That would be good, we got a bull tag for the moose camp, and the deer camp has plenty of tags as well.

I'm doing my usual 2 moose hunts, followed by 2 weeks of deer. Then I'll be coming home to do the occasional day hunt for deer using my muzzle loader or crossbow depending on what's legal.
My archery moose hunt is north of Kapuskasing as it has been for the last decade - I managed to draw a cow tag this year, but I expect the pickings will be slim.
My firearms moose hunt is for calves only this year.
It appears that there will only be two of us on each of these hunts.
My two weeks of deer are in WMU 47 as it has been for almost 50 years. We should have 100% antlerless tags this year unless someone forgot to apply. We'll likely have 10 - 11 men per week (with 2 or 3 of us hunting both weeks).
Since there were no additional deer tags locally this year, my late season hunting may depend on the good offices of others, unless I don't have to tag a deer in 47.

It seems I spoke too soon!~
Our Doe tags have been cut drastically this year, after the last two hard winters. Only two doe tags in camp.
Looks like we'll be horn hunting.
There has been a ton of coyote sign that last few years, and last year, we saw only big deer, no small ones. I figure they didn't make it.

I was just reading an article where one study found fawn mortality of up to 80% to coyotes in the area studied.
Do a google on "deer mortality to coyotes" ..... they really do have an effect on the population.
Around our area here, rabbits, and woodchucks are getting harder to find as the coyote population gets bigger.
From the article....
“The evidence we’re seeing has been remarkably consistent and it’s not changing from year to year,” said U.S. Forest Service research biologist John Kilgo, whose coyote studies at SRS are now in their fourth year.
The findings, based upon a sophisticated telemetry program to track and monitor newborn fawns, indicates coyotes are responsible for at least 50 percent, and potentially as much as 80 percent, of the documented fawn mortality.
That’s a lot of venison.

They also talk about house-cats, but ours here ain't afraid of 'em !!

Bill,
I agree that coyotes can have a very notable impact on the young deer population and I will add that timber wolves if you have them can play havoc on the older crowd. In our area we are blessed with both so if you throw in a few hard winters with deep snow to boot your hunting prospects are pretty bleek.
My Dad says that this summer he has seen very little sign of deer beds in his hay fields compared to say the last 12 or so years.
It could be a tag soup year this fall...I hope not ,I don't care for the stuff no matter how they spice it.
