Dear Mr. Gore,

Would you be so kind as to turn the heat up?

Yesterday we woke up to 48 degrees here in central NY - this morning it is 46 degrees. It's the middle of *%#*@ July for crying out loud, .. and I'm still having to put the heat on in the morning for the bathroom !!!!

And, it's been like this most of the Summer. We had to have coats on and blankets over our laps watching the 4th of July fireworks.

I don't know about where you live, but here, Long Johns don't look good with shorts !!!

Where's all that "Global Warming" you promised ?

I'm freezin', maybe I need a bigger 'carbon foot print'.

Bayrat.

You got it right. We live in an old house in Otsego County. When it gets cools and damp we have to use the woodstove at night. We did the entire weekend of the Fourth.
Not to worry though; the lying liberal left has changed the name to "climate change".
What idiots. Don't know what is worse. The lying decievers that come up with this chit or the ignorant masses that fall for it.

If she gets in, the 2nd amendment is in trouble. Can you believe how the dems are just buttering up and not questioning the obvious. It is clearly Us against Them today. That is bad. What do you think will happen- honestly, if she gets in, and they majority rule on gun bans ? At what point do you believe it will come to an either/or situation , being either report what you have, pay tax or hand them over, OR , well, let's just say Turmoil ?
I am seeing the democrat senators just fold over to her, like Chris Matthews had that tingle down his leg for Oboma, and that white kid went into speaking tongues when Oboma visited his school. Folks, we are in trouble. Kids today are really in trouble.

It's illegal to own a handgun in NC without a permit. ... and of course all the handgun owners are very happy about it.

it's illegal to own a handgun in NC without a permit

I seriously doubt that. Get me the NC title, section, paragraph, & text.

example LRS 56:116.1b ( Louisiana Revised Statutes)

LampLighter, despite the caveates about not being legal advice I suspect the following I extracted from the North Carolina Rifle and Pistol Associate fairly represents NC law on the subject. As I read the answers you may be right in that pistol ownership does not require permit. That depends on how long the owner is required to hold the purchase permit. Since the permit has been required for 90 years now for any owner transfer presumably one was issued if procured in NC legally.

However, the requirement of a special pistol purchase permit is well outlined making NCBoman correct in the practical sense. The permit is required for all gifts or purchases of a handgun as outlined in the answers along with its roots in racism and Jim Crow laws.

For Questions about Concealed Carry in North Carolina, see our Concealed Carry FAQ page.

Q: I have just moved to NC from another State. Do I have to register my guns with the Sheriff or the NC State Government?

A: There is no NC state law that requires you to register your firearms, or notify any public official. One county in NC requires its residents to register handguns - Durham County. This power was granted to Durham County by the State Legislature. No other counties or localities are permitted to require registration.

Q: I want to buy a handgun from a friend. Do I need to get any sort of permit to buy it?

A: Yes. All handgun transfers in North Carolina, whether through a dealer or via private sale, or presented as a gift, require that the intended recipient of the handgun obtain a Pistol Purchase Permit from his/her local Sheriff. You must go to your Sheriff, apply for a Pistol Purchase Permit (one per handgun you wish to purchase), and pay a $5 fee. When you take possession of the handgun you must present the Permit to the seller, who is required to retain it forever. If a Pistol Purchase Permit is not presented, both the buyer and the seller can be convicted of a Class I Misdemeanor.

As of 8/10/04 a new law was enacted, which permits someone with a valid North Carolina Concealed Handgun Permit to purchase a pistol without the need to obtain a Pistol Purchase Permit.

Q: You said that I have to get a Pistol Purchase Permit to receive a handgun as a gift. My father wants to give me a handgun for my 21st birthday. Do I really have to get a permit for a birthday gift?

A: Yes. NC law makes no distinction between purchases or gifts, and makes no distinction between strangers or relatives when it comes to transfer of a handgun. You must go through the legal process in order to obtain a handgun in North Carolina. There are no exceptions, except for Concealed Handgun Permit holders.

Q: What is the deal with this Pistol Purchase Permit law? I moved from one NC county to another and found that the Sheriffs of each county have vastly different requirements for getting Permits. Isn't this covered by State law?

A: The Pistol Purchase Permit law was passed in 1919, and is a classic piece of Jim Crow-era legislation (Jim Crow History). The recognition of civil rights for blacks and other minorities meant that the Constitution applied to minorities. This meant that blacks and other minorities could exercise their natural right to self-defense, with the full support of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution and Article I, Sec. 30 of the North Carolina Constitution. This did not sit well with the Ku Klux Klan (which for many years was headquartered in Raleigh, just down the street from the Legislature) and other racist groups and influential individuals. The racist members of the State Legislature knew they could not overtly prevent minorities from purchasing handguns for protection, so the seemingly innocent Pistol Purchase Permit law was passed. This law allowed local Sheriffs and government officials to discriminate with impunity at the local level.

Even today, the Pistol Purchase Permit law is implemented in an arbitrary and capricious fashion by 100 individual County Sheriffs. Some Sheriffs do little more than collect the fees and hand out permits to the law-abiding, because more than that is not necessary. Others implement ridiculous, intrusive requirements that either discriminate on a wholesale basis or are selectively applied so that discrimination can be more personalized.

With the advent of the National Instant Check System (NICS) there is no public safety reason why the Pistol Purchase Permit system needs to continue. The Jim Crow era is over, and the laws of that era need to be eliminated. Most people agree with that in principle, but for some reason when it comes to guns a significant number of people seem to think that discrimination and arbitrary requirements are a good thing. This is something NCRPA totally disagrees with.

We have been trying for 10 years to get the Pistol Purchase Permit system completely eliminated. Apparently when it comes to gun control a lot of people think Jim Crow is still a good idea.

:D:D That reminds me of the movie City Slickers where the two ice cream shop owners bet that one of them can't guess what flavor ice cream goes with poached sea bass. The other one guesses a flavor, and he starts high fiving the other slickers. Like, how the f--- do you know if he is right- there's no ice cream go with flavor master book or anything like that.

Woke up to 44 degrees this morning. This is one of the coldest Julys so far..... after one of the coldest and rainy-est Junes on record.....

.... and only a few days ago the Canadian CBC channel on our local cable was re-running their program about how the Artic is melting and Polar Bears are drowning for lack of sea ice.

If so, where's all this cold weather coming from,.. New Jersey

Sabre, the pay back is the mild winter. When I left Germany the last time I said if I ever wanted to see snow again I would fly to it.:D

In my adult life I have lived in Indiana, North Carolina, Germany, Kansas, Arizona (Sonoran Desert), Alabama, back to Germany and Texas. I spent the first 23 years of my life in Texas. As you can see there was a lot of one extreme to the other.

I believe it takes one full year o acclimate, partly the body and partly learning to dress. In the cold areas i tended to hibernated the winter and play summers. Hot spots I hide in the A/C playing in the winter. My favorite sports are fall and winter sports so south works juuust fine...plus I grew up here. :)

I'm just the opposite. Temps above 75-80deg. and I suffer unmercifully but I'm perfectly comfortable outside all day in 40-50 deg. temps with nothing more than a long sleeved flannel shirt. If I'm doing something fairly strenuous like splitting firewood, a t-shirt is all I want at those temps. Give me a good winter parka and I'll stay out hunting all day in comfort at temps down to -10 no problem. I won't even put on a pair of gloves while out hunting till temps get below 20 degree's as my hands just don't get cold above that. Consequently, life is usually good for me here from October-April and pretty unpleasant June-September. Oh yeah, and I actually like snow !

Now if you ask my idea of a perfect day it begins at about 50 degrees and tops out about 70 degrees. That comes pretty close to the average of out winter months. If I am in direct sunlight 55 to 60 degrees with a T shirt and flannel shirt is just fine. In shade I wil take a light jacket.

Starting tomorrow we will have a weeks worth of cool spell. After 100 plus and brilliant skys we will have highs of 91-92 with cloud cover and 20%-30% chance of rain. That mean about a 10% real chance of an afternnon thunderstorm or .10 inch shower.

Friday, Satuday, and Sunday (7-17, 18, 19) we broke records for morning time low's. It's been getting down to mid 50's at night, and highs in upper 70's with low humidity. Very odd cool weather for mid July. Should be 20 degrees warmer for normal July weather.

The only reason Al Gore is pushing global warming is because his brains are fried and he's looking for an excuse. (Especially one he fool people with and make tons of money for himself at the same time.) Likely investing some with Immelt from GE so he can cash in on the Inept One's "green energy" plans.
