View Full Version : Millwork guys, a little advice please. I'm about to destroy my house!

Against my better judgement I have agreed to attempt a window replacement project for a lady I have known fro some time.
I have been trying to find a good you tube video that gives step by step on the whole thing. I haven't had much luck. (I'm having to replace the window, right?) I'm going to go out and take a few pictures which will shed some more light on the situation.
Any help is much appreciated.
Alan
Never mind, thanks anyway. Lowes will install for $99. I can't do it for that!

By "window" are you talking about the frame and the glass window itself? A couple of years back one of my thermopane windows sprung a leak and was getting cloudy. I thought that I would need to replace the wooden frame and everything. I had a guy come over and look at it and he said to just take out the old glass and put in a new thermopane insert. Worked like a charm and way cheaper and easier than replacing the whole thing.

Alan, I am assuming you are talking a whole window replacement. What kind of siding are you dealing with?

:)
I like Atrium replacement windows.
there's a lot of 'how to's' on the net. here's a couple;
web page (http://hardware.hardwarestore.com/learning/how-to-install-replacement-windows.aspx)
web page (http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/how-to/intro/0,,20171587,00.html)
wrapping the outside with pvc coated aluminum is what makes the job. ;)
I could have done a complete pic story a couple of days ago if I'd known. :o

It's the whole window unit replacement. I understand the "get what you pay for thing" but I also understand the nit-picking "Didn't do it right griping for the rest of my life thing" too. I'd rather have it be Lowes fault. She's a sweet girl but her tongue is sharp and quick. I'll take my chances. Besides it frees up a lot of time for me to devote to really important activities ................... like checking on the Catfish biting situation.
Thanks for the responses anyway. I knew I would get plenty of good advice here if I only asked.
