better hope the wind doesn't blow like it has today when you move it. :D

I've done a little 'ruff carpentry' lately on several jobs.

My camera has several hundred pics for me to sort thru and I've been puttin it off, but since the site is back up, I guess I need to address that. :p

I want to get my front porch steps done in Old St Louis bricks. Had 2 Masons come out and give price. As soon as I make some moulla, I'll probably get the colored fellow out to do it. I myself am going to rent a Mason saw and cut some old St Louis bricks into 1/2 inch faces, and morter them onto my cinder block piers what my house sets on. Ever since going to Colonial Williamsburg, I have become brick obsessed.

If I were 'brick obsessed', I'd lay my own brick. ;)

I work on hi-end homes year after year and see a lot of really nice stuff. The things I really like are hard to find at any price.

Friend of mine does restorations and remodeling. He's currently replacing some interior walls of a house with heartwood red pine. He bought an old falling down house, took the house apart, and replaned the old boards. Beautiful stuff. I doan know what he's gettin for that wood but I know it's way outta my league.

I do not know how to build brick steps.

You might could learn out behind the barn ...

Then you might could do the porch. :D

... like roofing, look at the people that do it. It ain't rocket science.

Well I got the Roof hauled in Tact 49 miles door to door ,I swore it wouldn't work
I was wrong ............
A neighbor had a 21 foot boat trailer and said have at it lol
I took the face cutter out and took a shot at the six posts holding it down
Seven of us we picked this thing up off its perch and settled it on the trailer ,Next step tied her down too meet the 40 mile an hour winds it was about to encounter ( my biggest fear)
The roof never tried to lift,(shocked) as we towed it @ 40 plus MPH down the highway ,Well upon arrival
I had 3 men left, called a buddy and with four we stood it on its side (yep it stood) and slid it through the small entrance way to my Back yard
Just imagine a 22 X11.5 coming through a city neighbor hood then up-righting it, pushing it too my back yard (so far not one comment from neighbors) it lays, till my buddy comes by with 2 Drywall lifts to hold it up, while I attach the Posts
I have some pics and will post
The best part, it is the exact size I planned on Building

wow!!!!

When I brought mine in, I numbered and took every panel off and disassembled the entire thing for the move here. Then we put it back together again. :)

Thats what I wanted it would have taken more time taking it down but a one man putting it back up
I am going to have one heck of a Time Lifting it
My buddy dropped off a Sheet Rock Lift and we were able to lift the Roof
But it was very unstable
I'm thinking if we get it back up I may and a big MAY be able to put some legs under it
the way it should work is I want to screw one entire side directly to my Soffit
and Column the front side ,Its going to be very shaky until the last Screw Lands

Channel lock metal = somewhat heavy

You'll need supports ... ie, the soffit won't hold it.

I suggest a gutter on the house above it and a slight slope to the outside on the roof . I get a LOT of calls about leaks where the transitions are on these type additions.

lookin good though. :)

thanks
I don't know what # metal this is , I feel its very light and I hadn't seen your post till I put up a U channel (I think its called Open Beam) on the sofit the main Beam and a few pans

Your saying a Gutter then the roof I like the sound of that

Here is what I plan
The U beam is just tacked I also caulked the back side before tacking
each Pan has a fold and Folded corners I am putting Caulk behind everything
On each Folded corner I run a screw through it and into the U and one in the middle of the Pan
When this is done I will Break a Piece of metal (Valley Flashing) maybe 2 or 3" by 11"
I will set that under original Drip edge and put one screw on each high Rib
This should wart off the winded Rain
I look forward to your thought

I get a Picture of what I attempted to write

for some reason I thought it was 24 or 26 ga galvalume. Maybe I got it mixed up with the metal Billy posted about.

At any rate, I'd like to see some pics of the U beam attachment. I got a feeling that's going to be the critical link as far as keeping it from leaking at the transition. A gutter above will keep the water from the house roof from dumping onto the metal roof. :)
