What a mess we had to clean up last night. My Wife had found that our water filter had a small leak but what we didn't see at first was that it was a bigger leak and had found its way underneath our laminate flooring in the kitchen. We realised this after the edges of the laminate floor started to fold upward. We ended up having to remove all the laminate and padding underneath.

So I now have two choices. Remove the entire filter system. We use this filter because we have trace levels of arsenic in our water. We would have to use bottled water for drinking and cooking. The other choice is a shutoff valve that detects a water leak and shuts off the water supply automatically. This device is about $50.00. My thoughts are that, adding more gadgets to an already complicated filtration system is just inviting more problems. What would you guys do?

First, find out how much arsenic is actually harmful. Bill Clinton cut the 'safe' level in half completely arbitrarily. Before, it was something like 10 ppm. They didn't know if that was safe or not so instead of finding out, they cut it to 5 ppm. Very minimal research was done to determine what's safe or not.

Is this ground water or from a public utility?

I agree with Dick ... furthermore I'd try to find out just what 'trace levels' means in your area.

I doan necessarily think the leak detector would save your floor in the event of another leak but fifty bucks ain't so much. I bet the system cost a bit more.

Hi Guys, Well I bought and installed the water leak controler. It was pretty easy to set up. As a test run, I soaked a paper towel and put it on the floor. I then put the sensor on the wet paper towel and the conrtoller instantly shut the water flow to my filtration system. There is also a visible and audible alarm. Not a bad product for 50 bucks.

I had much the same thing happen to our under sink R.O. System. I got so fed up with the cheap snap together plastic plumbing all of these things contain, I just disconnected it and took out the tank, and everything else I could. I don't like plastic under pressure all the time. If you have an R.O. System that is exactly what you're going to have. I put one of those "PUR" filters on the spigot. It works well, and the water tastes good. The best thing is it is only under pressure when the faucet is on. Bill T.
