I hunted in NM Oct 17-22, and we found the same thing, bugling bulls with cows. Between two tags, we never killed anything, but when those bulls got seperated from some of their cows, they wouldn't shut up. Sunday night (18th) we had a bull 1/2 mile behind camp screaming all night long. He woke me up three times.
Sunday durring the morning hunt my cousin was calling a lot, and called in a cow to 40yds or less, we also got into three different bugling bulls before 10am.
Tuesday 20th, I got into a herd by cow calling and moving in to the bugles of the herd bull, and was right on top of them, but finally got busted. That bull dove down into a canyon and proceeded to bugle every two mintues, with me following him down, until 35-40 minutes into the second chase where he was killed by a smarter fellow than me. That bull bugling so much to regroup his cows flat got him killed, imo (me busting him didn't help his chances
). If the other guy hadn't of pulled the trigger, I would have had a pretty decent chance at him since his location was never in doubt.
Very exciting hunting.
