For the past two years you guys have faithfully prayed for my Mom through her battle with brain cancer and recently a broken hip. During this time she has been in this pattern of getting chemotherapy for six weeks and then getting an MRI scan and meeting with her Dr. to review the results. The chemo drug that she has been on (Avastin) has been doing a terrific job of keeping her tumor in check. Last Friday we met with her Dr. again to review the results of the MRI and her Dr. pointed out what she believes to be evidence of the tumor growing again. At this point the chemotherapy appears to be losing its effectiveness. So the plan now is to go through one more round of six weeks of chemo and then evaluate the MRI scan at the end of that six weeks. If the tumor show further evidence of growth, the Dr. talked about stopping chemo and then setting up hospice care for Mom as there would not be any more that they could do. Of course if the tumor shows no growth they will continue to administer it.
My Mom is understandably shaken and vacilates between saying, "I don't want to die yet" to "I guess if the Lord wants me there's not much I can do." Please continue to pray for her. Pray that she uses the time that she has left to deepen her relationship with Christ and that she actually will look forward to Heaven. I know that the Lord has given her years more than most patients who end up with this form of cancer and for that we are thankful. He has been nothing but good and deserves our praise.
