I always thought that ammo was sealed and would last indefinately, but my troubles with old ammo at the range a couple of weeks ago has me wondering.
I shot some ammo that was 10-15 years old and the accuracy results were poor, and I was getting misfires on the old Hornady Light Magnum cartridges. Also, the firing pin in my Encore was hanging up in the primers, maybe 80% of the time.
Fast forward to last Wednesday - 3 new boxes of ammo and no firing pin hang ups, no misfires, and much more consistent accuracy.
It sure seems that ammo kept in a safe will degrade with time.
